Tom Cruise's 'The Mummy' Casts Courtney B. Vance

Fresh from his role on FX's "The People v. O.J. Simpson," Courtney B. Vance has boarded Universal Pictures' reboot of "The Mummy."

He joins Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis and Jake Johnson in what's planned as the first film in the studio's long-discussed Universal Monsters cinematic universe.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman, "The Mummy" is set in modern times, with Boutella playing the titular monster. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise portrays a current or former Special Forces solider, while Vance has been cast as an Army colonel.

Vance, who played attorney Johnnie Cochran on "The People v. O.J. Simpson," is perhaps best known for his roles in "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "The Hunt for Red October."

Written by Jon Spaihts, "The Mummy" is already in production for a planned June 9, 2017, release.
