With "Mission: Impossible -- Rogue Nation" ringing up $272 million and counting worldwide, Paramount Pictures has reportedly decided to pull the trigger on a sequel to another Tom Cruise film, "Jack Reacher."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Ed Zwick is expected to begin filming November, for a late-2016 release.

Written and directed by "Rogue Nation's" Christopher McQuarrie, the 2012 adaptation of the Lee Child novel was one of a string of box-office disappointments for Cruise -- it was followed by "Oblivion" and "Edge of Tomorrow" -- grossing just $80.1 million in North America, and another $138.3 million overseas.

Paramount also hopes to keep the "Mission: Impossible" machine moving, with an eye toward shooting the sixth franchise installment next summer, for a 2017 release.
