Someone must have finally told Tom Cruise he shouldn't bogart all the '60s TV spy reboots as, according to The Hollywood Reporter, he has bowed out of The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

The Warner Bros. production has gone through several potential stars, from George Clooney and Bradley Cooper to Ryan Gosling and Channing Tatum. Guy Ritchie is the latest director to take on the project, based on the James Bond-inspired NBC drama. According to THR, Cruise's involvement was never completely firmed up, but Armie Hammer remains attached and Alicia Vikander is still in talks to play the female lead.

Ritchie has worked with some of the biggest names in the business: Brad Pitt, Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Clive Owen, Jason Statham and plenty of others. Perhaps one of them will sign on to play a super-spy.
