Tom and Jerry Movie Release Date Revealed

In an era where classic animated movies like Dumbo and The Lion King are all getting remakes, it seems everything is a go when it comes to bringing new life to fan-favorite franchises. Now, Warner Bros.' impending Tom and Jerry has taken a major leap forward, as well, by securing a release date.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Tom and Jerry hybrid of live-action and animation is slated to hit theaters April 16, 2021. The movie is based on the cartoons that started in 1940 by Hanna Barbera, the same company that also created The Flintstones, Scooby Doo, The Smurfs and The Jetsons.

Obviously, Tom and Jerry isn't the first Hanna Barbera cartoon to get a hybrid movie, and even Scooby Doo brought an animal to life. However, for Tom and Jerry, the challenge will be creating the capers of a cat and mouse in a battle of life and lunch.

Hanna Barbera created 114 Tom and Jerry shorts between 1940 and 1958, winning seven Oscars in the process. There was also a movie that hit in 1992 called Tom and Jerry: The Movie, although it was an animated film.
