A new image has been revealed as possible concept art for the Tom and Jerry film currently in development at Warner Bros.
The image that was posted on Twitter shows the classic Hanna-Barbera cat and mouse in the same scene as actress Jennifer Lawrence, whose dress and location appear to be somewhere in a hotel or hospitality setting. The film is expected to follow the example of such films as Space Jam, Scooby-Doo and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog by combining live action with CGI animation. The film is part of a recent initiative by Warner Bros. to reintroduce classic cartoon properties to modern day audiences.

Although there has been no confirmation that Lawrence has been cast in the film, Fantastic Four director Tim Story has been approached for the project, which would begin production after the director completes the upcoming Shaft reboot. Story's tentative vision would have the cat and mouse rivals silent, letting their slapstick antics speak for themselves in the same vein as the original cartoons.
Created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1940, Tom and Jerry would eventually win seven Academy Awards for Animated Short Film, and they continue to be featured in other animated short films and television spin-offs to this day. Their first feature-length film Tom and Jerry: The Movie was released in 1992, and 13 other direct-to-video films have been released since 2002. Tom and Jerry both appeared in the 1945 MGM musical Anchors Aweigh and the 1953 MGM musical Dangerous When Wet.
The film is aiming for a 2020 release date.
