Aogiri Tree is one of the more prevalent criminal organizations in Tokyo Ghoul history. For a long time, the CCG appeared to be gaining more power, but after the emergence of Aogiri Tree the balance started to shift yet again. Created by Eto Yoshimura after her defeat at the hands of the Commission of Counter Ghoul (CCG) 13 years ago, the Aogiri Tree was founded on the idea of ghoul supremacy. Their ultimate goal is to overthrow humanity and take their place as the most dominant species on the planet.

Aogiri Tree housed some of the strongest characters in the entire series and was a constant thorn in the side of the CCG for more reasons than their ideals. The physical strength of many in the group was unmatched, making them monsters among mortals and some of the scariest ghouls the series has ever seen.

Updated July 23rd, 2021 By Anthony Mazzuca: Tokyo Ghoul has always been filled with powerful characters, some ghouls so strong that they made others of their kind seem human by comparison. One question that always rings true with battle-oriented anime is who is the strongest? Who stands above all the rest? These are the strongest members in not only Aogiri Tree but the entire series.

15 Bin Brothers Utilized Teamwork Over Sheer Strength

Bin Brothers attacking with their kagune in Tokyo Ghoul manga.

Despite being executives in Aogiri Tree, the Bin Brothers were far from the strongest among the organization. Their standing in Aogiri Tree was more due to their leadership capabilities rather than strength. They were capable of amassing a large number of ghouls to the cause, strengthening the foot soldier ranks.

However, when forced into combat, they weren't the strongest. They had to rely on teamwork to overcome foes. It made them one of the smarter ghouls, but when foes didn't fall for their trickery, they'd end up as mere fodder to many of the characters in the series.

14 Yumitsu Tomoe Prefers Battling With Quinque She Collects From Investigators Rather Than Her Kagune

Yumitsu Tomoe, codenamed Grave Robber, was one of Tatara's chief subordinates and an odd ghoul, to say the least. Unlike most ghouls, Yumitsu preferred not to use her Kagune in combat. Part of that reason may have been how draining it was on her to use, especially when sharpening the blades on the three-pronged tails she sprouted.

Another reason is she was known as the Quinque collector. The Quinque were the chosen weapons of investigators, items she loved to use against them with a perverse level of delight. Her swordsmanship was said to be on par with a trained investigator as a result.

13 Hooguro Was A Respected Member Of The White Suits & An A+ Rank Ghoul

Hooguro was a member of the White Suits, an organization led by Aogiri Tree executive Naki. He was fully dedicated to Naki and his cause, following him no matter where he went. When Naki joined Goat, Hooguro was right there with him, operating as if he were Naki's, right-hand man.

Surprisingly, Hooguro had plenty of power himself as an A+ ghoul. His Kagune allowed for two double-jointed appendages to appear from his upper shoulder. They'd meet further from the shoulder to form a blade that could cut through just about anything, as shown during his battle with Oggai.

12 Miza Kusakari Blades Could Effortlessly Slice Through Flesh & Bone

Miza Kusakari became an executive in Aogiri Tree after her noted turf war battles with the Bin Brothers. While smaller in stature, her Kagune allowed her to sprout three blades from her body, each of them strong enough to effortlessly slice through the flesh and bone of her foes.

It made her a dangerous combatant, even if she never got to have many fights during the series. She also had an interesting relationship with a fellow Aogiri Tree member named Naki. At first, he annoyed her, as he did readers. She eventually warmed to him and by the end, settled down with her fellow executive.

11 Naki Grew As A Character, Going From Annoying To One Of The Stronger Characters In The Organization

Naki crying tokyo ghoul

Naki was a reasonably weak Ghoul when first introduced to the story. Many found his antics to be annoying, and he seemed truly out of his depth. Despite this, he managed to slowly climb up the ranks of Aogiri Tree, and as such, credit is due.

Though prone to emotional outbursts, Naki remains an impressive fighter. Naki's Kagune is a Koukaku type, meaning he manifests his Kagune around his shoulder region, then usually wields it like a massive sword. Naki has grown in strength over the years and has shown himself to be one of Aogiris strongest members.

Jason was a callous man, famed for his brutality he quickly racked up a name for himself while a member of Aogiri Tree. After experiencing the excruciating pain of torture from a CCG investigator, Jason was captivated by it. It led to him developing a sick and twisted love for watching his victims in pain.

Jason consumed many Ghouls throughout his life, and this greatly increased his strength. As a result, he became one of the most feared Ghouls in Tokyo Ghoul.

Hinami served as a member of Aogiri Tree before joining Kaneki's organization. In her time, she was largely used as an intelligence gatherer. The information she collected was usually important in helping Aogiri build power to go against the CCG. Hinami grew significantly as a character throughout the series, going from a happy-go-lucky girl to a strong young woman.

8 Shikorae Went From A Joke Character To The Strongest Threat In Tokyo

Shikorae twisting his arm over his head in Tokyo Ghoul.

When Shikorae was introduced, he was nothing more than a coward and more of a joke character than anything else. No one could have imagined he'd end up where he did by the end of the manga. With most of the ghouls now living peacefully in the world, he's one of the few that still rampages.

He's also morphed into a Kakuja, making him one of the strongest threats in Tokyo. While he's still more of a speed-based character, his strength has received a needed boost, putting him up there with some of the executives of Aogiri Tree.

7 Ayato Kirishima Overcame His Weaknesses To Become One Of The Most Well-Rounded Fighters In The Series

Ayato Kirishima from Tokyo Ghoul.

The brother of Touka, Ayato grew up with his sister in the 20th ward. Not happy with his life, one day, he suddenly disappeared. After leaving the ward, Ayato would wander around to different places, and everywhere he went, he would wreak havoc. Aogiri Tree caught wind of this and quickly recruited him to bolster their ranks.

Initially, Ayato suffered from several weaknesses, with his most major flaw being his low RC Cell count, which would often lead to him tiring. But through further training, he immensely increased in strength and Kagune control. He's an impressive fighter at both close and long-range, with his wings granting him great mobility.

6 Matasaka Kimishiro Never Stopped Training, Always Trying To Enhance His Strength

Though he was not a member of Aogiri Tree for long, Shachi, as he is better known, was a major contributor. He is one of the strongest and most experienced Ghouls around, having led the Ghouls of the 6th Ward for some time. Back in his day, when he was still the leader of the 6th Ward, he was known for regularly training his comrades, which greatly increased their capabilities.

Shachi has great respect for the martial arts, having spent much of his life mastering it. His Bikaku type Kagune generates from his lower back and takes the shape of an Orca's tail. This Kagune can grow to massive sizes to deal incredible amounts of damage.

5 Noro Possessed One Of The Most Unique Kakuja

Noro's mysterious grin in Tokyo Ghoul.

Noro was formerly known as Noroi before changing his name. He's an oddity even in a series with such strange and fascinating creatures. Noro usually acts in silence, preferring to prioritize the mission above anything else. Interestingly, Noro is a Bikaku Kagune, who through consuming other Ghouls, became a Kakuja.

As a Kakuja, he has a special type of Kakuja that wraps around his body like armor, making him exceptionally durable. Noro's Kagune is massive, can stretch surprisingly far, and it also has mouths in different sections that he often utilizes in battle. On top of that, he possesses an astounding regenerative ability, with his regenerative capacity being one of the highest seen in Tokyo Ghoul. Noro was a pivotal part of Aogiri Tree's operations, and he helped protect Eto, the founder of Aogiri Tree.

4 Tatara Only Valued The Strength Of A Person, Making It The Only Trait He Tried To Improve

Tatara was one of the leaders of Aogiri Tree and a subordinate of the previous One-Eyed King, Kishou Arima. Tatara greatly respected Arima for his overwhelming strength, with that characteristic a necessity for Tatara to respect you. He values strength above all else and will quickly dispose of the weak if he deems them a hindrance.

As a Kakuja, Tatara turns into a massive form reinforced in his Kagune. This form allows him to ignite his RC cells granting him the ability to control and create fire. In this form, Tatara is robust and dangerous, and it would take the most skilled of combatants to defeat him.

3 Seidou Takizawa Became One Of The Strongest Ghouls Due To The Experimentation Done On Him

Seidou Takizawa with widened eyes Tokyo Ghoul

Seidou is a man with a checkered past, having been a member of many different organizations throughout his life. Due to a mixture of his ambitious personality and inferiority complex, Seidou can often be a man with fickle alignments. His mental issues mean he bounces around, never really finding a place for himself, and so far he's been a part of Aogiri Tree, The CCG, and Goat.

He was once a regular human, but after being experimented on, he became one of the strongest Ghouls alive. It's made him a massive asset to the groups he's been a part of. Both his Ukakau Kagune and Kakuja are reminiscent of Yoshimura's though not as powerful or refined.

2 Eto Yoshimura Was The One-Eyed Owl & Leader Of The Entire Organization

Eto laughing with abandon

Eto is the One-Eyed Owl, one of the strongest people in Tokyo Ghoul. She's the biological daughter of former Anteikou manager, Yushimura and his late wife Ukina. She was raised and protected by Noro so that she could safely come of age. This plan was set up by Yashimura, as he knew there would be many people after his daughter.

She also displays an incredible level of control of her Kagune, fluidly manipulating it to her will during the most heated of battles. It's believed that she cannibalized some of the strongest Ghouls around, which has led to her developing one of the most formidable Kakuja's.

1 Kishou Arima Played Both Sides Of The Ghoul Conflict & Had The Power To Turn The Side For Either Side

Arima with blood appearing from his neck

Kishou Arima was one of the CCG's most legendary investigators, and at times it appeared he could single-handedly turn the tide of entire wars. Despite his service to the CCG, Arima spent many years operating as the One-Eyed King, secretly siding with Ghoul society.

It's believed that as the One-Eyed King, Arima strongly believes in revolution and social change. His desire for this change resulted in him training Kanekito to become his successor. Arima is one of the world's best fighters around, and though he did not lead the Aogiri personally, he is definitely their strongest ever member.
