One of the most popular Seinen action anime series of the 2010s is Tokyo Ghoul, an action/horror story by author Sui Ishida. In the 14-volume original manga and the anime adaptation, Ken Kaneki is an ordinary college student... until he is mauled by a flesh-eating ghoul, and converted into a half-ghoul himself!

In this franchise, ghouls are roughly similar to vampires: powerful creatures of the night who feed on humans but can pose as human themselves by day. They're also arrogant about their superiority and like to toy with their victims, and some of them even dress up a bit like vampires. Other ghouls, though, look more like street punks. Now, which five characters in this series are sharp dressers, and which ought to get a little fashion advice?

10 Best Dressed: Rize Kamishiro

rize kamishiro in tokyo ghoul

She is the first ghoul we ever see on screen, and at first, Rize appears to be a classy, elegant college girl with a refined taste for literature and other nice things. It was a total shock when she revealed her ghoul side.

Despite being an infamous flesh-eater, Rize has a fantastic wardrobe, preferring high-end gowns, blouses, and other outfits that would do just fine at any cocktail party. Her well-brushed hair and charming red glasses help round out her appearance.

9 Worst Dressed: Juzo Suzuya

juzo suzuya tokyo ghoul

This boy is one of the most fearsome ghoul investigators of all, and one of the most unusual, too. He's a battle maniac with limited social skills, and he's more bloodthirsty than many of the ghouls are. He's not one to wear a suit and tie.

As opposed to his crisply dressed compatriots, Juzo wears... well, an odd assortment of colorful clothes that don't really add up to anything, from slippers to a large button-up shirt to suspenders and colorful socks. He doesn't make the best first impression.

8 Best Dressed: Akira Mado

akira mado

She is the daughter of Kureo Mado, and most people would agree that she makes a much better impression than her old man would. She has her neatly groomed hair in a stylish pattern, including a braid that goes around the back of her head.

Meanwhile, she has a professional but elegant look, with her dark blue/purple suit and red shirt, which is a common color scheme to Tokyo Ghoul. She also wears black leggings and heels, which she seems perfectly comfortable walking around in.

7 Worst Dressed: Uta

Uta is the ghoul who makes masks for other ghouls, and he takes pride in his unique creations. He also has a number of friends and allies, though he's rarely seen fighting. Ken met him early on and got his trademark mask from him.

Like a number of ghouls, Uta goes for a punk, underground look, but the results are a bit silly. He's got piercings straight from the early 2000s and a bizarre, rope-like choker, not to mention haphazard black clothes and some oddly placed tattoos. Unfortunately, the punk aesthetic isn't automatically cool.

6 Best Dressed: Yoshimura

This kind old man is a ghoul too, but you wouldn't guess it based on his appearance or his demeanor in that coffee shop. He believes in peaceful coexistence with humans, and thus dresses sharply and keeps himself well-groomed.

Mr. Yoshimura spurns the goth-punk style that many ghouls embrace, and instead looks nothing more or less than a skilled barista, ready to serve. It's a timeless and comforting look in a world as vicious and artfully ugly as Tokyo Ghoul.

5 Worst Dressed: Nico

Like Juzo, Nico seems determined to wear a bit of everything at once, and the result is pretty messy. It's one thing to embrace your colorful side and show off, but Nico does it pretty clumsily. At least he won't be mistaken for anyone else!

His attire ranges from yellow plastic-framed glasses to a pink sweater and bluish scarf to red pants with rose patterns on it, down to some high-heeled boots. And don't forget all those little accessories he likes to add, too. He's even got a smiley-face pin, Watchmen style.

4 Best Dressed: Shu Tsukiyama

shuu tsukiyama from tokyo ghoul

He borders on tackiness, but he manages to stay on the more fashionable side of that dividing line. Shu Tsukiyama is the gourmet ghoul, the token France-loving character who likes to make a spectacle of things.

Tsukiyama is looking good, from his stylish and neat hair to his crisp suits and his colorful undershirts. But unlike Juzo or Nico, his use of color is more restrained and deliberate, and that makes for a unique look on his suits. We approve.

3 Worst Dressed: Nishiki Nishio

Nishiki is one of the first ghouls whom Ken met aside from Rize, and he made for a serious challenge when the two guys fought in an alleyway. Nishiko, like Ken, is making a serious effort to blend in with the human students at college. He totally had Ken and Hide fooled.

He has a rather plain outfit, nothing that really stands out, and his long-sleeved blue shirt has this odd vertical, yellow stripe on the right side, and his pants and shoes are pretty ho-hum. He probably dresses this way to avoid standing out and maintain a low profile.

2 Best Dressed: Ayato Kirishima

Ayato Kirishima staring in rage in Tokyo Ghoul.

This is Touka's little brother, and at first, he wore a pretty plain outfit that included a black jacket and pants. But soon, he was seen in this nifty outfit, which is a good representation of the goth punk style of Tokyo Ghoul.

Ayato's outfit looks a little bulky, but he moves well in it, and we like the visual relief of the white fur trim and the silver buttons to help break up its appearance. His ghoul mask is also a good one, looking like a sort of tough bird beak/respirator.

1 Worst Dressed: Kazuichi Banjo

kazuichi banjo

Kazuichi Banjo is a pretty swell guy; we could even say that he's a gentle giant, and he will risk life and limb to protect innocent people (usually fellow ghouls). He has an odd little beard shaped like the Japanese hiragana for "no," too (the sound, not the word).

His outfit is pretty clunky, though, ranging from blue jeans with weird light-blue strips on the pockets to what appears to be a bizarre letter jacket with combinations of gray, blue, yellow, and white. We have to say, these colors don't get along well when arranged like that. Banjo ought to try a more streamlined look.
