Tokyo Ghoul took the anime and manga world by storm upon its release. The storyline felt fresh to viewers and readers, and the characters were both dark and extremely interesting. One of the main characters, Touka, is often the subject of conversation when it comes to the show.

Touka is a ghoul, and when we first meet her, she is a waitress at the restaurant Anteiku. She later becomes a manager, but this only happened after the Owl Suppression Operation. However, after everything around her falls apart, and so she ends up joining Goat, an organization that allows her to relocate to the 24th ward. Here is Tokyo Ghoul: Everything You Need To Know About Touka.

10 HER PAST

For a very long time, Touka, her brother and her father had to blend with the rest of the humans during their time at the 20th ward. To do this, her father, Arata taught them how to act like humans, to the point where they even learnt how to eat human food.

Unfortunately, her father was later captured by ghoul investigators, but Touka never gave up. Eventually, they ran away from home, and as the siblings grew up, they continued to harness their powers before she found work at a coffee shop.

9 COMPLICATED SIBLING RELATIONSHIP

Since they are the last two members of their family, Touka makes sure to guard her brother with her life. However, they have very different feelings on the world around them, and humans in particular. Her brother, Ayato, hates humans for bringing his family down.

Before he began to go off on his own, effectively causing her to worry, they were constantly together. Their constant disagreements had them bumping heads often, but they still care for each other deeply. Although they do end up reuniting, despite their many differences and mistakes that they make with one another, their relationship remains complicated, but loving still.

8 HER FEAR OF BIRDS

One might think that being a ghoul means basically having a handle on everything in life. However, Touka actually has one big, and very major fear. It has nothing to do with love, or ghoul investigations, or even anything human.

It's actually a deep fear of birds. Touka was supposed to care for one during her childhood, but it ended up attacking Touka, and effectively allowed her to spark a massive hatred for birds.

7 POWERS

Touka is an extremely powerful ghoul, and because of that, she has many powers. Beyond superhuman speed and durability, she develops many abilities over the course of her childhood and teenage years.

Her kagune (which is a ghoul's predatory organ) is overcome with an aura that resembles lightning. Because of that, she is able to generate electricity which she can use to her advantage. Touka is also able to harden or dis-harden her wing, proving that it is easy for her to control.

6 PERSONALITY

The reason why Touka is one of the most favorable characters of the series, is because, for a long time, she took the persona of the tough know-it-all that people tend to love in anime shows. She is often very rash, and she is hard working.

As a human, she is as normal as can be. As a ghoul, she is ruthless and destructive and shows no qualms in destroying ghoul investigators. As the series goes on, she becomes far more gentle, and even starts to smile. However, she is quick to go back to her old ways with people she is very close to.

5 RABBIT

Touka's alias is Rabbit, and it is for both metaphorical reasons and physical reasons. On the outside, she is meant to look cute and normal, resembling something that people didn't feel afraid for, like a rabbit. It's quite perfect, considering how threatening she actually is.

However, it is when she takes on her ghoul form, that the nickname is closer to her physically. When she is in her ghoul form, she wears a long jacket, a wig, and a rabbit mask. Thus, it effectively gives her the perfect nickname.

4 HER RELATIONSHIP WITH KANEKI

At first, Touka and Kaneki don't have a very good relationship, in fact, she just hates him. She didn't want to show any empathy to someone who was half-ghoul. Because of this, she had no trouble possing him around and telling him off when he did something wrong.

Of course, like any major girl and guy story, it meant that the two of them would fall for each other. Any good love story has the whole hate-to-love storyline, and this relationship was no exception. She eventually helps him adapt to his life as a ghoul. They fall for each other and eventually get married.

3 THE UKAKU KAGUNE

Tokyo Ghoul's Wing-like Ukaku Kagune

Touka's kagnue falls under the ukaku kagune family, and is known for the appearance it gives out. It releases itself from their shoulders and looks like features. Those who fall under this kind of kagune are known for their high-speed attacks, but lack of stamina.

They are great in long-range combat rather than short-range which is a weakness of theirs. Their kagune can also be used as a shield which is helpful if they are ever in a close combat situation. They have a tendency to end battles quickly, mostly because they have to do so before their power runs out.

2 THE INCOMPLETE KAGUNE

Touka's kagune, although powerful, is actually incomplete, which may surprise some fans. The reason why this happened is actually Touka's fault. When she was young, she released her Kagnue, which was not a smart move.

The reason why Ghouls are not supposed to allow their Kagnue to be released when they're young is that they can't properly control it, or hold the power that the kagune has. While it may not have seemed like a smart move, it was actually a selfless act. Her brother was about to be taken and ripped apart from ghoul investigators, and she released her kagune in order to protect him.

1 WEAKNESS

Touka is not a weak character by any means, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have a weakness. Although she has superhuman speed and durability, her stamina leaves something to be desired. The longer she fights, the weaker she gets. However, that doesn't mean that she won't finish her fight. She's extremely stubborn and strong-willed, and would rather finish a fight with no stamina left than give up.

Beyond that, lack of stamina is actually something that runs in her blood! Amon who is part of the CCG, confirmed that when he spoke to Touka about the ukaku kagune ghouls.
