Spawn creator Todd McFarlane's McFarlane Films now has a television division.

According to Deadline, McFarlane Films has officially launched a dedicated "development and production arm" for its small-screen projects. McFarlane Films' new TV division has a first-look deal with wiip, the studio behind Mare of Easttown.

McFarlane himself, alongside President of Television Sean Canino, will oversee McFarlane Films' initial television development slate, which currently includes two projects: McFarland and Thumbs, the latter of which is based on the graphic novel of the same name by writer Sean Lewis. Lewis is involved in the TV series, as are Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!, Night At the Museum), Anders Weidemann (Beartown, Interrogation) and the production company ShadowMachine (BoJack Horseman, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio).

McFarland and Thumbs join Sam & Twitch, a live-action TV series based on the popular Spawn characters Sam Burke and Twitch Williams that was announced back in June. Sam & Twitch is currently in development at McFarlane Films and wiip, with Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg attached as writers.

"The rare combination of artistic genius and trailblazing entrepreneurship that defines Todd's career over the last 30 years is a true marvel," said Mark Roybal of wiip. "wiip's strategic partnership in television with McFarlane Films, led by Sean Canino, allows us to tap into a pipeline of global IP and collaborate with emerging voices in the comic book world which will bring audiences into new universes infused with Todd's wonderfully twisted vision of the world."

The main Spawn property itself -- which was previously adapted into a live-action film at New Line Cinema from director Mark A.Z. Dippé and writer Alan B. McElroy in 1997 -- is also currently headed for a cinematic reboot at Blumhouse Productions. McFarlane is attached to direct the new Spawn movie, with Brian Tucker (Broken City) having recently signed on to pen the script. Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner were once attached to star in the new film as Spawn and Twitch Williams, respectively, though it remains unclear if they are still involved in the project.

Said McFarlane, "Having been in development with Jason Blum at Blumhouse, along with attaching Jamie Foxx on a potential Spawn movie franchise, other opportunities both in film and television came forward which led to this expansion in entertainment."
