When Chris Evans bursts onto the big screen as Steve Rogers in The First Avenger: Captain America, he'll have more villains beyond the nefarious Red Skull to contend with. Heat Vision reports that actor Toby Jones is in final negotiations to star as Arnim Zola in the Marvel Studios film, set for release in July 2011.
A longtime villain of Captain America's, Zola is a brilliant scientist who brought his horrible genetic experiments to the doorstep of the Nazis during World War II. He survived the war and into modern times through the use of various artificial bodies that he can transfer his consciousness between. In recent comic book lore, Zola played a crucial role in the death of Captain America, and even housed Red Skull's consciousness for a time — something that could come into play if Marvel wishes to bring both the Skull and Zola into the modern era with The Avengers and future Captain America films.
The England-born Jones has dabbled in a few franchise films over the years, including his notable turn as Dobby the house elf in the Harry Potter movies, an episode of Doctor Who and a forthcoming role in The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. He's also well known for his performance as Truman Capote in Infamous and as Karl Rove in Oliver Stone's W.
