TNT's Snowpiercer series has a new release date. Originally slated to premiere on May 31, the series will now debut two weeks earlier, on May 17.

"It is extremely important that we continue with our promise to meet audiences where they are, and to that effect, we are moving up Snowpiercer's premiere so that fans can enjoy this futuristic series even earlier." TNT, TBS and truTV general manager Brett Weitz said in a statement.

Snowpiercer has had a bit of a rough road in getting to this point. It has endured a back and forth from TNT to TBS, and back again, as well as losing its original showrunner Josh Friedman and director Scott Derrickson, who helmed the original pilot. Orphan Black's Graeme Manson has taken over showrunning duties.

Based on the film by Bong Joon-Ho, which itself is based on the graphic novel Le Transperceneige, Snowpiercer takes place seven years after the world has frozen over in an environmental apocalypse, with humanity stranded on a giant moving train. Passengers are divided due to class differences, which has brewed resentment.
