Konami released the first major patch for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection.

In an official statement, Konami and Digital Eclipse unveiled the first major update for the TMNT game, with new improvements like online multiplayer for Turtles in Time and customizable button mapping. Digital Eclipse added more color filter options for the Game Boy games, including black and white, Game Boy green, Game Boy pocket green, and Game Boy light blue. The patch also improves audio for both various games and the Main Menu.

The full patch notes detail minor adjustments, like changing the Nintendo Switch version's icon to The Cowabunga Collection's box art. Additionally, the PS4 arcade controller and Xbox arcade stick are now supported. After downloading the update, players can find more tips and tricks in the strategy guides for assistance in the Tournament Fighter games. Konami also promised a future patch would add online play for The Manhattan Project.

Released in August 2022, TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection features 13 of the franchise's video games, including the Tournament Fighter range. Other memorable additions are the original arcade versions of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The fighting games' release dates vary from 1989 to 1994, featuring titles on the NES, SNES and Sega Genesis home consoles.

In collaboration with Nickelodeon, Konami announced the limited edition collector's set of The Cowabunga Collection. The bundle includes a physical collector's box with exclusive artwork from TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman and the base game. The limited edition sets players back $149.99, while the standard edition costs $39.99.

Alongside The Cowabunga Collection, another recent beat 'em up game continued the TMNT franchise. Released in June 2022, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is a side-scrolling adventure based on the original animated series with influences from Konami's 80s and 90s games. In the first week following its release, developer Tribute Games shared Shredder's Revenge had sold over one million units.

"We are humbled to have so many people sharing our love of the Turtles! One million copies sold in its first week calls for a mondo pizza party with tubular toppings! Thanks again to all of you all over the globe and in Dimension X!" the studio wrote on Twitter. Co-founder Jean-Francois Major also thanked the TMNT community and encouraged players to find the easter eggs hidden throughout Shredder's Revenge.
