The following contains major spoilers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Armageddon Game - The Alliance #2, available now from IDW.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been in desperate need of help as of late, especially with the threat of the Rat King and his cadre of villains looming. Worse still, the Heroes in a Half Shell have only managed to alienate their closest allies in recent months, although that looks like it is finally starting to turn around thanks to none other than Casey Jones. Not only has Casey begun to make amends with his oldest mutant companions, but he may also have even bridged the gap between them and their newest mutant rivals, and all without any of them even realizing it.

While the eponymous heroes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Armageddon Game - The Alliance #2 (by Will Robson, Andrew Dalhouse, Gigi Dutreix, and Shawn Lee) are busy gathering allies to take on the Rat King's forces, Casey Jones is doing all he can to keep the city's streets safe. This includes confronting the Punk Frogs, who are struggling to simply survive. Though they and Casey are hardly friends, the abrupt appearance of the Purple Dragons quickly changes that, as both he and the Frogs find themselves facing off against Casey's old gang. It might not be the fight any of them expected, but it is the one that could change Mutant Town forever.

Despite their differences, Casey is more than willing to help the Punk Frogs defend themselves against the overtly xenophobic Purple Dragons. After spending years helping his father run the gang, Casey is more than aware of the Purple Dragons' lethal tactics. This is especially true when it comes to mutants. These methods are ultimately what drove a wedge between them in the first place, not to mention what has kept them from reconciling in the time since.

Thanks to his close relationship with the Turtles, Casey lost more than his position within the Purple Dragons, along with friendships he spent so many years believing defined him. This includes the relationship with his father Hun, who perished without ever realizing how wrong he had been about the city's mutants. Now that Casey has put his own life on the line for them, the Punk Frogs are beginning to see that they too were wrong about their fellow mutants. This could very well be the key to bringing them and the Turtles under one roof.

Between their disastrous first encounter with the Turtles and the fights that followed, it is understandable that the Punk Frogs wouldn't be interested in helping their fellow mutants. With Casey on both their sides, however, it is obvious that they never really understood what good the Turtles were trying to do. It is also clear that the only way any of them are going to survive the Rat King's Armageddon Game is by working together. Now the best way to do this may be under Casey's leadership.

Beyond the beginning of a new era for the Punk Frogs, this marks the beginning of a new era for Mutant Town as a whole. With both of its most prominent mutant teams on the same side, it is hard to imagine how anyone could bring either of them down again. Hopefully, that will prove to be true going forward, no matter how much the Purple Dragons and their ilk might wish to push back against it.
