"TMNT 2" Adds Laura Linney In Mystery Role

With production on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" underway in New York City, the sequel to the 2014 film has made a number of big casting announcements over the past few weeks. "Arrow" star Stephen Amell joined the cast as Casey Jones and Tyler Perry followed, signing on to play Baxter Stockman in the film. Now The Hollywood Reporter has learned of the latest actor to join "TMNT 2's" rapidly expanding cast: Laura Linney.

The three time Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner has joined the cast in a mystery role, according to THR. Linney -- best known for her starring role on Showtime's "The Big C" and turns in films like "The Savages," "Kinsey" and "The Truman Show" -- has so far shied away from doing big budget, action-oriented fare. THR states that the actor has become more open to younger-skewing projects after becoming a new mother.

Set photos of the currently in-production film have popped up over the last week, including Megan Fox sporting a whole new look, Amell on set and Perry in his Stockman suit.

Directed by David Green, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" is scheduled for release on June 3, 2016.
