After keeping Bruce Wayne largely obscured by shadow, DC Universe's Titans unleashes a murderous Batman in the trailer for the season finale.

The first look at next week's episode, "Dick Grayson," depicts the former Robin (Brenton Thwaites) enlisted by a wheelchair-bound Jason Todd (Curran Walters) to stop their mentor, who's set out to kill The Joker following the death of Commissioner Gordon. Interestingly, Titans is able to depict the Dark Knight, whereas he remains off-limits to The CW's Arrowverse, and will beat Gotham to introducing a version of the iconic costume.

The trailer provides plenty of glimpses of Batman in action, along with obscured looks at the bodies of some of his best-known rogue, including Two-Face, The Riddler and The Joker, all presumably victims of his unhinged crusade. "This wasn't justice," Dick observes, "this was a massacre."

There's also a police assault on Wayne Manor, suggesting the Gotham authorities have become aware of the Caped Crusader's identity.

Of course, before fans jump to too many conclusions about the finale, which arrives on Dec. 21, they should probably watch this week's episode "Koriand'r." This is likely a nightmare vision, rather than a dark reality playing out. Still, the series does deliver Batman.

Now streaming on DC Universe, Titans stars Brenton Thwaites as Robin, Anna Diop as Starfire, Teagan Croft as Raven and Ryan Potter as Beast Boy.
