The first trailer for Titans arrived with a ton of fanfare, but if you were looking for a fun, lighthearted superhero romp, you were likely very disappointed. The flagship television series for the DC Universe streaming service will be dark, violent and serious in tone. The trailer had a mixed reception, but it's hard to say for sure how good or bad the show will ultimately be until it debuts in the fall.

However, if you were hoping for something very different, it might be hard for you to get through an episode that looks like it would fit right into the grim-dark world of the DCEU. When you add the costly price tag attached to DC's streaming service, there's a chance you might need a little help to get through the first few episodes. Help from what, you ask? Booze! That's right, turn Titans into a drinking game and it will immediately become more fun, even if you end up hate watching it in the end. Here are the official rules for the Very Official Titans Drinking Game.

Drink When: Robin Says Something Mean About Batman

The big moment of the show's first trailer was when Robin utters the words "Fuck Batman." While it was certainly shocking to hear, you'll appreciate the sentiment if you're familiar with Dick Grayson's relationship with Batman in the 1980s. The two had a falling out, to put it nicely, and Dick went on to forge his own path as Nightwing. It's clear that Titans will depict a Robin whose relationship with Batman is on the rocks. Perhaps we will even witness Dick's evolution into his own superhero identity.

The Dark Knight won't be in Titans (at least not in the beginning), but there will no doubt be enough mention of him to remind us that he's out there somewhere in this new universe. Robin will be angry and directionless, so if he's saying "Fuck Batman," he's probably saying some other mean stuff about how bad a mentor he was, or how ineffective he is, or something just mean for the sake of being mean. To this end, we ask that you take a drink each time Dick says something disparaging about the Caped Crusader.

Drink When: A Superhero Drops the F-Bomb

Hoping to get the attention of nerds everywhere, DC Comics decided to use "Fuck Batman" as a way to turn heads. Sure, it makes sense in the context of Brenton Thwaites' character, but it was very obviously used in the trailer to show us just how mature the series is supposed to be. It's the kind of thing you show off just to showcase that this is a show that has the ability to say the word "fuck" if it wants to, and that the DC Universe shows are cool and mature for doing so.

If they're going to have Robin drop an F-bomb, most likely in the first episode, it means that other characters are likely to drop the word too. Maybe there will be some superheroes arguing with one another, or a bad guy fed up with costumed teenagers ruining their perfectly good crime, but the F-bomb will be heard more than once. When it does show up again, please take a drink.

Drink When: A Superhero Brutally Attacks the Bad Guy

Hawk and Dove Titans Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly

A major part of Titans being treated as mature content is the incredible levels of violence we see in the trailer. Fist fights in the street are certainly going to be dangerous, but the trailer seems to go out of its way to show just how brutal the heroes are against the bad guys. We see Robin throw his R-shaped weapon into a criminal's neck and blood sprays out. There's also a scene where Hawk and Dove cut up criminals and break some bones.

Regardless of whether or not Robin actually shoots the bad guys, he's actually seen using a gun (hopefully that doesn't become a thing), and then he steps on a guy's face. Did he kill that guy? We don't know. Either way, it's clear that the heroes are going to be seriously messing up the bad guys on this show. The action scenes were reminiscent of the fights in Watchmen as an immature depiction of what "mature content" is supposed to include. Maybe don't try to eat while watching this show, but each time the action goes a little too brutal, take a drink instead.

Drink When: Titans Destroys Your Childhood

The Teen Titans property has been used over several generations to get young people into comics. In the '80s, a wave of comic book readers were drawn in by Marv Wolfman and George Perez's run on The New Teen Titans. Kids were attracted to comics by way of the 2003 Teen Titans animated series, where they were met with Geoff Johns' run on the series. And as much as people complain about Teen Titans Go!, it is the definitive depiction of what the team should be for a new generation of fans.

Now, consider what Titans will mean going forward. There will be no kids watching this show, so it's going to operate on a lot of nostalgia in order to make it feel familiar. That means Easter eggs and references to other iterations of the team's continuity, but can they really pull it off in this dark and serious world without ruining your childhood? Remember when Man of Steel killed off Jimmy Olsen because Zack Snyder thought it was a fun reference? Remember Cyborg's half-hearted "Booyah" from Justice League? Get ready for something equally as cringe-worthy and make sure you take a drink.

Finish Your Drink: Cyborg Shows Up

20 Justice Leaguers Ranked From Weakest To Totally OP

Speaking of Cyborg, though he's not been announced for Titans, he's supposed to appear in the coming Doom Patrol television show that spins out of an episode of this series. Vic Stone was a longtime member of the Teen Titans, but has since been retroactively made into a founding member of the Justice League for DC's New 52 reboot in 2011. Despite the publisher's failure to market him as an A-list solo hero and fans wishing he could return to his roots, Cyborg is still not allowed to be a member of the Teen Titans.

The very fact that the character is expected to show up on a DC Universe show is huge, but it's still unknown how big of a role he will have or who will actually be playing him. For Cyborg to be included in Doom Patrol and not Titans seems like a complete waste, so here's hoping DC makes the magic happen. Don't be too surprised if he's a no-show, but if he does make an appearance in Titans, finish your damn drink. Hell, if he's referenced as some kind of associate of the Titans team, pour yourself another and drink that one, too!

Remember, this is all in fun, and no one is rooting for this show to be bad; we all want to enjoy seeing Robin, Raven and the rest come to life. However, if it's not your cup of tea, have a glass of booze instead. These are only five rules for the Very Super Official Titans Drinking Game of Doom, so please feel free to come up with your own. Don't drink and drive, though, and definitely don't drink and comment on the internet.
