Stars of the DC superhero series, Titans, take to social media to say goodbye to its legions of fans after surprise news of the show's cancellation broke.Posting to Twitter and Instagram, Titans actors Curran Walters (Jason Todd/Red Hood), Jay Lycurgo (Tim Drake/Robin) and Joshua Orpin (Conor Kent/Superboy) expressed sadness at the show's discontinuation but reminisced about the good times they had while playing their heroic characters. Walters said he would "miss this fan base so much," while Lycurgo told fans he would "save my goodbyes until Tim masters his Bo staff!" Meanwhile, Orpin's farewell message was considerably longer and emotional, posting on-set photos of his time as Conner Kent/Superboy while talking about his "dream role" and admitting that this was one of the most challenging moments of his career so far.RELATED: DC's Doom Patrol, Titans Canceled at HBO Max

Curran Walters starred as Jason Todd/Robin/Red Hood in the first three seasons of Titans, becoming Dick Grayson's (Brenton Thwaites) successor as Batman's trusted sidekick. At Bruce Wayne's request, he joined the titular group and often leaned between fun-loving and dark traits. Lycurgo appeared in Seasons 3 and 4 of the series as Tim Drake, a huge Batman and Robin fan who gets to live his dream by joining the Titans. Orpin's Conner Kent/Superboy is a genetic clone of Superman and Lex Luthor, possessing traits of both and later interacting with the Titans after escaping from a laboratory with Krypto.

HBO Max Cancels Titans and Doom Patrol

On Jan. 25, HBO Max confirmed it would ax Titans and fellow DC series Doom Patrol once their respective seasons ended. Despite Titans director Nicholas Copus seemingly teasing the development of Season 5 earlier this month, reports claimed producers were pessimistic about the future of the series following the widespread changes at DC Studios under co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. Gunn later confirmed he and Safran had nothing to do with HBO Max's decision to cancel Titans and Doom Patrol.

Titans first aired on the now-defunct DC Universe, with Seasons 1 and 2 showing on the DC-owned streaming service before shifting to HBO Max for Seasons 3 and 4. The show was initially supposed to premiere on TNT before the network walked away from the live-action project ahead of filming. Based on DC Comics' Teen Titans, Titans chronicled a young group of superheroes fighting crime across various cities, including San Francisco, Detroit, Metropolis and Gotham City.

The Teen Choice Awards-nominated series also features Anna Diop (Starfire), Teagan Croft (Raven) and Ryan Potter (Beast Boy). Season 4 of the show debuted last November, airing six episodes before a mid-season break amid speculation about its future. No official date has been given for when the second half of Titans' final season will air, though Copus believes it will premiere this April.

All episodes of the Titans series are available to stream via HBO Max.
