Titans showrunner Greg Walker recently explained that Iain Glen is the perfect actor to portray Batman in the DC series because he's not what fans expect when they generally think of Bruce Wayne.

"You look at a guy like Iain, and what I see is a guy who has lived. He's been through a lot," Walker said in an interview with Central Illinois' WMBD-TV. "He doesn’t fit the cookie-cutter or the model that we've known in previous Batmans."

The showrunner added that Glen's portrayal of the aged-up version of the Caped Crusader brings "experience and life" to the beloved DC character.

"So much about what we try to do is question, 'Why am I a superhero?' This Bruce Wayne is a guy who has transported his tragedy into violence and been an artisan of that," Walker said. "He raised sons doing the same thing, and he's now realizing that the legacy isn't quite working out. That there's a failure in parenting that he's had."

Walker also revealed that Season 3 of Titans will explore some themes about Batman that the Titans books weren't able to address, and that Game of Thrones alum Glen is the right man to help tell those stories. "Iain is the perfect character for that. You can see that struggle,” Walker said. "Batman has taken violence to a high art, but he struggles as a father, as many of us do. What's brilliant about Iain's performance is that struggle."

Walker's comments about Glen's take on Bruce Wayne came about a week after Titans launched a collection of new Twitter emojis for its main cast, as well as one for the hashtag #RipRobin. Among the other characters who got the emoji treatment as part of the campaign were Twitter emojis include returning characters Dick Grayson/Nightwing (Brenton Thwaites), Kory Anders/Starfire (Anna Diop) and Rachel Roth/Raven (Teagan Croft).

It was revealed earlier this year that Season 3 of Titans will depict the transformation of Jason Todd from Robin into Red Hood, as well as the introduction of a new Robin in the form of Tim Drake (Jay Lycurgo). A pair of photos recently released ahead of the new season depicted Dick and Kory in brand-new costumes. Kory's new costume is purple and gold, while Dick's new Nightwing costume is black and silver and features two new batons.

Created by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti, Titans debuted in 2018 and the first two seasons are currently streaming on HBO Max. Season 3 is will debut Thursday, Aug. 12.
