The second season of DC Universe's Titans promises to be even bigger than the first. Already, we know that, on top of the returning Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven, Hawk and Dove, and Donna Troy, we will also introduced to Superboy, Krypto, Rose Wilson, Jericho, and Slade Wilson himself, aka Deathstroke. What's more, the first trailer hinted the series will reveal the secret history of the Titans. But what caused the original team to disband?

The new trailer may offer the answer. Given all the hints that are dropped, it's possible Deathstroke may have killed founding member Aqualad.

The first trailer for Season 2 teased flashback sequences to the days of the original roster, when Robin, Aqualad, Wonder Girl and Hawk and Dove fought crime side by side. However, something drove them apart.

Titans Season 2 trailer Aqualad

This new footage plenty of evidence that the original team suffered a catastrophic loss. In a scene presumably set in Titan Tower, Donna Troy says to Dick Grayson, "There's ghosts in this place; tell them what happened." Later, the former Wonder Girl is heard in voiceover saying, "Slade Wilson is why we shuttered this place." Then, as the looming threat of Deathstroke intensifies, Hawk says, "He's going to kill how many more now?"

The implication is that, as the Season 2 synopsis teases, the Titans have faced Deathstroke before. Moreover, the dialogue indicates that Slade left a body count -- and one of those "ghosts" may just be Aquaman's former sidekick. After all, so far, we've only seen Aqualad appear in flashback sequences, with other members of the original team. The character is never shown interacting with the "present day" characters like Beast Boy and Starfire.

Therefore, the logical explanation is that Aqualad is dead. Given that the remaining original Titans speak of the loss they suffered at the hands of Deathstroke, there aren't many potential candidates remaining.

The penultimate shot in the trailer, featuring Hawk, Dove, Donna and Dick standing side by side, surely makes it seem as if they are on a mission of revenge now that Deathstroke has resurfaced. Maybe they weren't able to defeat him last time. But now, they are older, they are stronger... and they have another generation of heroes to help them.

Titans stars Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson, Anna Diop as Kory Anders, Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth and Ryan Potter as Garfield Logan, with Minka Kelly as Dawn Granger, Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall, Curran Walters as Jason Todd, Conor Leslie as Donna Troy, Joshua Orpin as Superboy, Esai Morales as Deathstroke, Chelsea Zhang as Rose Wilson, Chella Man as Jericho, Drew Van Acker  as Aqualad and Iain Glen  as Bruce Wayne. Season 2 arrives Sept. 6 on DC Universe.
