WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Titans Season 3, Episode 9, "Souls," available now on HBO Max.

Early in Titans Season 3, Jason Todd killed Hank Hall/Hawk using an EKG bomb. Since then, the show has revealed Jason regrets those actions, which were done while he was under the influence of Jonathan Crane. Still, Hawk's death wasn't exactly a glorious end for a hero. Now, Titans Season 3 has given Hawk a new ending, and it's both bittersweet and fitting.

Most of "Souls," the latest episode of Titans, takes place in the afterlife. There, Hawk saves Donna Troy/Wonder Girl and Tim Drake from a group of soul-sucking ghouls that want to take their spirits to Hades after the two heroes leave a train filled with the dead. Hank then explains to Donna that he's been looking for a way to get back to the mortal plane so that he can help his friends and take revenge against Jason for killing him. Initially, Donna is recalcitrant, but she soon comes to his side and decides to aid him and Jason in finding a rumored bridge back to the land of the living.

Sure enough, the trio find the bridge, but as they start crossing, they're attacked by a group of ghouls. The bridge eventually splits, with Hawk and Tim on one side and Donna on the other. Hawk provides cover for Tim to get across, but after he jumps the gap, the bridge breaks more. Hawk realizes he's not going to be able to cross and decides to fight the ghouls and buy his friends time. "Tell Dawn I love her," Hank says to Donna before diving back into the fray.

Hawk and Dove reunite in Titans Season 3, Episode 9, "Souls."

Eventually, Hawk gets off the bridge, which disappears pretty much as soon as he gets out of its immediate area. Unsure of what to do next, Hank turns around and sees his brother: Don Hall, the original Dove. The two hug, and Don reveals he's actually been helping to spirits fight against the ghouls while looking for his brother. The two then agree to reunite Hawk and Dove, serving as heroes for all eternity.

When Donna and Tim come back to life, they're in their original bodies. However, the bomb destroyed Hank's body, meaning it's not totally clear if he would have been able to return to life in the first place. Instead of having to deal with that question, Titans instead opts to reunite Hank with Don, who was killed in a fatal car accident prior to the events of the series. So while, in the end, Hawk might not have necessarily gotten what he wanted, he got what he needed: His partner back.

The first nine episodes of Titans Season 3 are available now on HBO Max. Episode 10 releases Sept. 30.
