Titans writer Richard Hatem shared a new behind-the-scenes photo from the set while confirming filming for Season 4 of the hit HBO Max series has begun.

"Aaaand we're back!" Hatem captioned a photo of a clapperboard featuring the Titans logo and information about Season 4, Episode 1. "First day of production, TITANS SEASON 4!" The photo also revealed that Episode 1 is being directed by Nicholas Copus, whose previous DC credits include helming episodes of Arrowverse shows The Flash and Arrow and Fox's Gotham series.

Season 3 of Titans centered on Scarecrow taking control of both Gotham City and the Gotham City Police Department with the help of a fear-removing drug. The season finale ("Purple Rain") saw the titular team coming together to take down Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow, while also redeeming Jason Todd/Red Hood in the process. Episode 13, which debuted in October 2021, also saw the return of Bruce Wayne/Batman (Iain Glen) to Gotham and the Titans beginning their journey back to San Francisco.

Hatem's post came nearly a month after it was revealed the upcoming fourth season of Titans will feature a fan-favorite DC villain: Lex Luthor. While it hasn't been confirmed who will portray Luthor, it was reported at the time that Superman's nemesis will reportedly appear "towards the beginning" of Season 4 and won't be a recurring character on the show. It was also previously revealed that Vampire Diaries and Originals alum Joseph Morgan will appear in Titans' fourth season in a recurring role as villain Sebastian Blood/Brother Blood.

While no further details about Season 4's plot have been revealed, it's believed the new season will consist of 13 episodes. Titans star Brenton Thwaites, who portrays Dick Grayson/Nightwing, also recently hinted at what fans can expect moving forward. Thwaites told CBR, "Moving forward into Season 4 and 5, we will see clarity and values, clarity and vision, confidence in being the superhero he spent three seasons developing and, in turn, becoming smarter, stronger and the team mirroring that." The actor also teased that his character was "in a new place mentally and physically" by the end of Season 3. noting, "He's learning to approach a situation from a smarter place as opposed to just fighting through it."

Created by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlant, Titans stars Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Ryan Peter, Teagan Croft, Curran Walters, Joshua Orpin, Savannah Welch, Vincent Kartheiser, and Iain Glenn. The first three seasons of Titans are streaming now on HBO Max, while Season 4 does not yet have a release date.
