This article contains major spoilers for Titans Season 4 Episode 4, "Super Super Mart," which aired Nov. 17 on HBO Max.

Titans Season 4 just gave Sebastian Sangre, aka Brother Blood, an extended and extremely powerful family.

Following the Titans' rescue of Sebastian from Mother Mayhem's clutches at the end of episode 3, "Super Super Mart," sees the team takes the taxidermist with them to the derelict Asylum they burned down in Season 1. While there, they discover some tape recordings and other evidence which proves Mother Mayhem was an inmate there until the fire. The tape recordings also reveal a shocking discovery -- Sebastian is Mother Mayhem's son with Trigon, making him Raven's half-brother.

They also discover Sebastian bears the same arrow-shaped birthmark on his shoulder blade that Raven does, cementing their theories. While in what used to be Mother Mayhem's room in the Asylum, they find a children's book, which they realize depicts a prophecy about them and Sebastian. He refuses to believe it could be true, as he has no violent instincts, though his mother appears to think differently. In the end, the team decides to hide in S.T.A.R. Labs until the Blood Moon vanishes in eight hours' time to prevent the prophecy from taking place.

Brother Blood's Role in Titans Season 4

Titans changed Brother Blood's origins from the comics, turning him from a violent villain to a lonely, sympathetic nerd. It's a common villain trope in recent years, seen in recent films like The Batman. It also changes Mother Mayhem's relationship with Brother Blood, making her name far more literal. While viewers had seen Mother Mayhem's keen interest in Sebastian over the first few episodes, "Super Super Mart" only confirmed her reasons for targeting him.

Actor Joseph Morgan previously spoke on where Titans Season 4 would go with his character, Brother Blood, noting that he does not start as a villain. "As you know, I'm playing a character called Brother Blood. But that's not where he starts off. He starts his journey as Sebastian Sangre," he explained. "It's really an origin story of a villain that we're playing out here. And so, what's been incredibly rewarding for me -- and will continue to be, I think -- is exploring how he gets from being Sebastian to becoming Brother Blood."

In an interview with CBR, Showrunner Greg Walker similarly described Brother Blood's sympathetic villain origin story. When asked what audiences should feel for the character, Walker answered, "Sympathy, crudely -- more to the point, some understanding. I think dropping a fully-fleshed villain into our world is simply less interesting to us as writers than exploring who someone is."

Titans Seasons 1-3 are available now on HBO Max. Episodes of the first half of Season 4 air Thursdays through Dec. 1.
