Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is becoming a franchise, following the game's mass popularity.

Per a report from Kotaku, the Borderlands spinoff drastically exceeded Gearbox's expectations of how well the title would perform. At the Embracer Group annual general meeting on Sept. 21, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed the company's plans for a future franchise centered around Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. "I’m thrilled to report that, in addition to great financial rewards from this victory that will be coming our way in the coming quarters, we have established a firm beachhead and we now clearly have a new franchise on our hands, with future experiences already under development at Gearbox," Pritchford said.

So far, it's unclear what these "future experiences" actually are. In terms of film adaptations for the video game series, Lionsgate released the first footage for the upcoming Borderlands movie at CinemaCon in April this year, giving audience members a first look at Cate Blanchett as Lilith. Additionally, the footage showed Kevin Hart as Roland and Jack Black as Claptrap. Eli Roth serves as the director, while Craig Mazin is behind the script. "I look forward to bringing my own energy, ideas, and vision to the wild, fun, and endlessly creative world of the game," Roth said.

Journeys in the Borderlands

In addition to a film and a Wonderlands franchise, fans are still hopeful for Borderlands 4. Critics and fans both raved over Borderlands 3, released on Sept. 13, 2019. Volition, another one of Embracer's studios, met a less fortunate fate than Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. The company released a Saints Row reboot on Aug. 23, but the game didn't amount to the same success as the Borderlands spinoff.

Released on March 24 this year, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands focused on a former NPC from Borderlands 2. Thirteen-year-old Tiny Tina was at the forefront for the fourth Borderlands 2 DLC, Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep. Developers took the same feel of the DLC and expanded it into the standalone game that is Wonderlands. The 2022 RPG title combines fantasy aspects with first-person shooting. Even Arrested Development star Will Arnett appears as the voice actor for the sinister Dragon Lord.

Shortly after Wonderlands' release, Gearbox revealed its plans for four additional DLCs. The most recent available include Coiled Captors and Glutton's Gamble. Fans have mixed opinions about the game's DLCs. Wonderlands' DLC, and its several initial bugs and connection issues didn't fare well for the game's success. However, the title pulled through and impressed critics and fans alike.
