Tintin, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises: December 22nd Comic Reel

The reviews are coming in, many of them are quite favorable. Over at Spinoff Online, Katie Calautti writes, “The film manages to conjure all the humor and camaraderie of ‘The Goonies’ and the adrenaline-fueled adventure and set pieces of ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ while still maintaining its own unique aesthetic and voice. It’s been a long time since a Steven Spielberg movie made me both sufficiently nostalgic and hopeful for a new generation of viewers, but good things come to those who wait.” She even says the use of 3D is good! The Los Angeles Times’ Kenneth Turan writes, “Think of ‘The Adventures of Tintin’ as a song of innocence and experience, able to combine a sweet sense of childlike wonder and pureness of heart with the most worldly and sophisticated of modern technology. More than anything, it’s just a whole lot of fun.”

Directed by Steven Spielberg, release date: December 21, 2011

The lads at Comic Book Movie note Clark Gregg’s interview in the latest issue of SFX Magazine. The actor describes Agent Coulson’s role in the film: “I think he’s different in the way everyone is different in The Avengers, in that the whole cast is building together the concept of a team. When you look at the team it’s made out of rock stars, divas, and giant muscles with superpowers so somebody has the job backstage at Lollapalooza to make them all play in the same concert and super band – and that’s what Agent Coulson does.”

Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012

Another day, another video of Gary Oldman musing on his last turn as Jim Gordon. This time, the Digital Spy asks him to talk about the last film:

Release date: July 20th, 2012

And in what has to be this week’s oddest news item, James Marsden tells ETonline that he’d love to play Cyclops again … in a film that focuses on the character. “There were so many cast members in this 90 minute movie, there was never enough time to give him the depth that other characters had. The first movie was really Wolverine’s saga – and the second and third as well,” he says. “If I could go back and put on the glasses and suit again where we do a film to learn more about the character, that’s the one I would pick. He’s ripe for that.” I wonder if he knows about the Summers family and its swashbuckling dead-beat dad? Hell, I’d pay money to watch him in a movie in which he fights alongside the man called Cable (Jason Statham) only to find at the end that they’re father and son. I guess there are stories to tell with everybody’s favorite mutie stuffed-shirt.

Release date: TBA

We have one more anticipated trailer landing today with the full reveal of Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus.” I’m ambivalent toward it as I haven’t liked any of his recent movies and the return to space horror seems like a creative dead end. Time will tell, it always does. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of the “Blade Runner” sequel.
