Tina Fey is no stranger to the Muppets, as her NBC comedy 30 Rock is chock-full of references to the beloved characters (it was even revealed that Kermit the Frog was Liz Lemon's childhood crush). But now the actress, writer and producer may be ready for a full-on felt embrace.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fey is in talks for the female lead in Disney's The Muppets 2, a role that would reunite her with her Invention of Lying co-star Ricky Gervais, who signed on to play the male lead.

Not much is known about the sequel's plot, other than it takes place in Europe and has some heist elements. Modern Family's Ty Burrell is set to co-star as a lackadaisical Interpol inspector. The Hollywood Reporters' sources claim Fey would play a "Russian gulag prison guard." That's an awful lot of law enforcement, indicating perhaps that the heist isn't super-successful.

The film is being penned by returning director James Bobin and screenwriter Nicholas Stoller, who collaborated with Jason Segel on The Muppets. Bret McKenzie is once again writing the songs.

We've seen Fey do her best Muppet impression in a 2009 episode of 30 Rock called "Apollo, Apollo," in which the viewer discovers that Kenneth the page sees his co-workers as song-singing Muppets.
