The TimeSplitters series has been dormant for over fifteen years at this stage, much to the dismay of gamers everywhere. The iconic FPS franchise is fondly remembered for its lightning-fast gameplay, irreverent British humor and sheer variety. Since developer Free Radical Design entered administration in 2009, the series has changed hands several times, yet no new entry in the series has seen the light of day.

The IP is currently owned by Deep Silver's Dambuster Studios (Which was originally Free Radical design) and the team is exploring ways to bring the series back. Until then, fans have something else to get excited about. Former Dambuster employee Matt Phillips revealed that he had managed to fully port TimeSplitters 2 int0 2016's Homefront: The Revolution, and now anyone can access it.

Locating the Easter Egg

Homefront was already well known for housing the first two levels of TimeSplitters 2's story mode before the reveal it contained the whole game, and this easter egg must be unlocked before anything else. The easter egg is hidden in a worn-out arcade cabinet in the mission "Small By Name." This takes place around five-six hours into The Revolution; players can find the cabinet is located upstairs in the Bourse hideout.

After accessing the easter egg via the cabinet, TimeSplitters 2 can be accessed from the main menu of the game, under the Extras option. From here, the unlock codes can be entered for the rest of the classic game's content. When entering the following codes, players should begin in TimeSplitters 2's story mode menu, and pause inputting any codes while the game transitions between menus, as several code combinations will cause the game to do so.

While fans eagerly await an announcement of something brand new for the series, these codes for Homefront: The Revolution allows players to jump back into the classic shooter. While an understandably imperfect port, it is a great way for gamers to interact with the TimeSplitters series on current-gen consoles.

TimeSplitters has once again proved its lasting appeal to the gaming industry with the hype surrounding the port and only serves as more evidence that Dambuster is doing the right thing in exploring ways to resurrect the franchise. With the recent news that Free Radical co-founder Steve Ellis has joined the team to lead its TimeSplitters efforts, the future is finally looking perfect for this beloved series.
