A new iteration of the mutant team known as X-Factor is set to appear in the "Dawn of X" era of the X-Men, and while it will include mostly new members to the roster, they will be joined by Lorna Dane/Polaris, who has been both a member and a leader of X-Factor.

Polaris has been a part of the X-Men's story since the team's earliest days, and she has proven time and time again that she can be an incredibly dangerous addition to the team, both to the enemies they face and possibly her teammates in the new X-Factor.

10 ACCIDENTALLY KILLED HER PARENTS

When Polaris was just a child, she was involved in a mid-air plane explosion that took the lives of her parents, which Lorna spent years thinking Magneto was responsible for as the metal in the plane had all been magnetized.

It was years later that she would discover the truth that Magneto was her true father, which was later followed by the news that Lorna herself had been responsible for the accident when her powers flared up and destroyed the plane, though Magneto decided to wipe her mind of the incident to spare her from the trauma.

9 THREW THE ISLAND OF KRAKOA INTO SPACE

Professor Xavier was forced to assemble a new team of mutants in Giant-Size X-Men#1 after the original team (which included Polaris and Havok alongside the original five ) was lost in battle with the mutant island of Krakoa.

When the new team succeeded in rescuing the old X-Men from the clutches of Krakoa, Polaris was forced to push her powers harder than she ever had before thanks to an electrical boost from Storm that allowed Polaris to magnetically push the entire island of Krakoa away from the planet.

8 CAN STAND UP TO OMEGA-LEVEL MUTANTS

Even before Polaris had really started to tap into her potential upper limits of power, she was able to almost take out both Storm and Jean Grey while she was under the mind-control of Davan Skakari/Erik the Red.

More recently, she spent some time in spacing fighting against the omega-level Gabriel Summers/Vulcan, and while she was never able to take the victory on her own, she was able to severely injure him by crushing his armor with him still inside of it.

7 TAKEN OVER BY MALICE

Malice was an incorporeal being that was able to possess the bodies of others, represented by a gothic choker that appeared around the neck of her victims, who often worked for Mister Sinister as a member of his Marauders.

While Malice had taken over a number of other X-Men before, when she possessed Polaris the bond proved to be permanent and they were trapped together. Malice quickly displayed her new powers by taking over the Marauders, and she remained an enemy of the X-Men until the death of Mister Sinister finally weakened the bond between them.

6 SECONDARY MUTATION INFECTED OTHERS

Zaladane was a sorceress from the Savage Land who believed Polaris to be her sister, and she was able to steal her magnetic powers from her, which both freed her from Malice while also leading to the activation of Lorna's secondary mutation.

Initially, her mutation was physical and greatly increased her size and strength, but it was soon revealed that she had become a nexus of negative energy that was inspiring violence around her. She would later return to her original size and powers after Psylocke disrupted her new abilities during the "Muir Island Saga."

5 GOVERNMENT'S FAILSAFE AGAINST MAGNETO

Polaris' first stint with X-Factor came at a time when the team was sponsored by the government, although the team never really had a great working relationship with the government, and eventually moved away from their supervision.

Before the mutant Random was a member of X-Factor, he was hired to try to kill Polaris but was violently and repeatedly splattered with his new car. Polaris later discovered that the government was testing her as part of the Magneto Protocols, and wanted Lorna to be their failsafe against a future attack from the master of magnetism.

4 CRASHED HER OWN WEDDING

Lorna experienced a great deal of trauma as one of the few survivors of the destruction of Genosha, as she not only used her abilities to withstand the Sentinels' assault but also to preserve the digital recording of Genosha's last minutes as electronic ghosts.

This damaged her already fragile psyche and when she returned to the X-Men, a whirlwind of emotions led to her rushed engagement and wedding to Havok, who left her at the altar. She then attacked the wedding guests after she manifested her own Magento helmet out of silverware before she was talked down.

3 CREATED A META-PLAGUE AS PESTILENCE

After the House of M event decimated the mutant community and erased most of their abilities, Polaris was captured and manipulated by Apocalypse with the promise of new abilities, which he gave her through unknown technological means.

However, Apocalypse also transformed her into one of his Horsemen alongside Gambit and Sunfire, and as Pestilence, she broke into the World Health Organization's headquarters and began to consume a number of viruses and diseases to create a deadly meta-plague that would wipe out most of humanity before they were stopped by the X-Men.

2 DESTROYED A FLEET OF SHI'AR WARSHIPS

Polaris worked alongside the Starjammers when Vulcan attempted to take over the Shi'ar Empire, and she quickly became a key asset in the war against Vulcan's forces, which were also engaged with the powerful Scy'ar Tal race.

Polaris' control of metal allowed her to make short work of a number of warring Shi'ar and Scy'ar Tal ships during her time with the Starjammers, and she often served as both offense and defense for the Starjammer during intense space battles.

1 TOOK OUT DANGER BY HERSELF

While Polaris was rarely given the chance to display the full potential of her abilities while working alongside the government-sponsored team of X-Factor, she definitely stood out while leading her own team for Serval Industries.

When they encountered an enslaved Danger (the sentient form of the X-Men's former training facility known as the Danger Room), Polaris got angry after Danger knocked her down and destroyed her body with a thought, something the entirety of the X-Men were unable to do when she first transformed.
