The junior role of the Dynamic Duo has passed through plenty of capable hands over the decades. Robins have died, found their own path, confronted Batman, and finally forged identities for themselves in the craziness of the DC Universe. Safe to say, Damian Wayne had oversized shoes to fill when he took on the role.

Not everyone likes Damian Wayne, and that's fair, even Batman has his concerns. It would be unfair to hold Damian to the standard of previous Robins because he has yet to finish his arc as the Boy Wonder, especially when they have already graduated. But there are times when the Bat's Son rises above the legacy that comes with being Robin and makes the role his own, even outdoing his predecessors.

10 And The Rooftop Running Award Goes To...

Robin The Dorrance Building

In Robin #4, written by Joshua Williamson, every Robin is put to the test when Damian challenges them to catch him as he jumps from rooftop to rooftop. This moment encompasses Damian's personality really well, as he often feels the need to prove himself and get out from everyone's shadow.

Damian beats every single Robin, using Red Hood's emotional instability and the relationship between Tim Drake and Stephanie Brown against them. Nightwing is a different story. Dick lets Damian go after having a heart-to-heart, but one could argue Damian uses Dick's empathy to win the chase.

9 Damian Has The Most Baggage

Damian doesn't have it easy. Not only must he live up to his dad, mom, and grandfather, but Damian has billions of Gotham dollars and a League of Assassins to inherit — while still having to live up to the legacy of previous Boy Wonders. It's a lot to take on.

Previous Robins usually joined the Bat-Family because they lost their biological one, and they needed a new direction in life. Damian's biological family was the Bat-Family, and his direction in life had always been a violent one. Batman couldn't teach him a different way of life, because violence was all he can offer. Damian never had an alternative that resembled regular family life.

8 Damian Searches For His Own Form Of Justice

It's the nature of sidekicks to follow along with their hero's convictions and goals, especially with a figure like Batman. Robin's role is that of a supporting character. Eventually, a dramatic event will happen that causes a rift between Batman and his sidekick. These moments lead said character to go on a journey of self-discovery, often choosing to do things on their own.

Damian has been on that journey the whole time he has been Robin. From the moment he walked away from the League of Assassins, Damian has been trying to figure out what he wants to be.

7 Damian Is Deathstroke's Favorite Robin

In Teen Titans Annual #2, written by Robbie Thompson, Deathstroke revealed that his favorite person to wear the Robin costume is none other than Damian himself — much to Damian's surprise. According to Slade, Damian resembles Deathstroke more than Batman because he's not afraid of getting his hands dirty.

This shouldn't come as a surprise. Damian's brutality and lack empathy define his tenure as Robin. Deathstroke's behavior is very much the same. The line which divides the two is that Damian sees what he's doing as being for the greater good, while Slade doesn't really care.

6 Damian Has No Problem Punching Above His Weight Class

Wanting to prove himself, Damian often punches above his weight class. Damian's tenacity prompts him to stay in the fight even when he's getting creamed and should consider calling for backup. Earlier in the Teen Titans' run, Damian convinced his team to literally walk through Hell, so they could stop a super-powered genie from taking over Heaven. This isn't the kind of mission a young sidekick should be taking on with his teenage superhero team. Damian, however, is out there to prove himself, and the idea of dying gives him no pause.

5 Damian Has Been The Robin To Multiple Bats

When Dick Grayson took on the role of Batman, Damian was there to be his Robin. A gap needed to be filled in Gotham, and the two did their best to live up to the legacy. Being trained by assassins and then by his vigilante father, Damian was hesitant to accept Dick's mentorship.

However, after Dick Grayson earned Damian's respect, Damian accepted the opportunity to learn from somebody whose priorities weren't as warped as his previous mentors. Seeing as Dick grew up in a similar environment and has been put through the wringer more than once, it makes sense that the two achieved mutual respect.

4 Damian Has Leadership Material

Teen Titans #41 cover

Damian's decisions as the leader of the Teen Titans were questionable, and they were questioned by the team. But it's undeniable that Damian was a crucial part of the team. So much so that the Titans couldn't function after he left. Even the team's inception played out differently than a usual team-up.

Instead of joining up for the greater good, this incarnation of the Teen Titans came about in Teen Titans #1 —written by Benjamin Percy — when Damian kidnaps the other members of the team. Amazingly, they still agree to join him.

3 Damian Is The Lonest Wolf

Despite being in multiple teams throughout his career as a crime-fighter, Damian never really lost the habit of doing things on his own. He's been part of the Super Sons, Teen Titans, and the Bat-Family, just to name a few — but Damian can't help keeping secrets and getting himself into trouble by handling things solo. Despite having an aptitude for leading, Damian has an equally strong aptitude for acting on his own. While Robins are generally made to follow, Damian refuses.

2 Damian Was The Victor Of Victors

Damians New Gang From Lazarus Tournament in DC comics

The following contains spoilers for the ending of Robin #9, written by Joshua Williamson.

Joining a death tournament was a huge risk for Damian. He not only risked his life, but he also risked the chance of ever returning to Gotham. It's one thing to kill Brother Blood — a supervillain responsible for multiple murders and who could come back to life — but it's quite another thing to sign up for a tournament where one must kill people.

Batman might not be so forgiving and let someone back after they've willingly signed up to kill people. However, not only did Damian win the tournament, but he also allied with the other combatants to bring the island down — ultimately saving all the people he'd signed up to kill.

1 Damian Is The Most Dynamic Robin

Damian battles the other Robins - DC Comics

At some point in the future, fans will get a comic series dedicated to Damian with a name like Crimson Bat or Battling, but as of right now, all he has are possibilities on the horizons. Previous Robins have settled into careers of their own, with their own superhero names to go along with them. Damian is still figuring out what that will look like for him. He's no longer a sidekick, but not a hero of his own yet. His path at the moment is the most dynamic out of any Robin, which is a critical element when part of the Dynamic Duo.
