Like the rest of the DC Universe, Black Adam's mythos was rebooted at the beginning of the New 52, which resulted in one of the darkest origin stories in DC's history. Revealed in Justice League Vol 4 #20, Black Adam was initially enslaved in ancient Egypt. After working for countless hours alongside his nephew, Aman, Adam, and Aman were suddenly transported to the lair of the Wizard, Shazam.

Seeing the two as potential champions of good, the Wizard Shazam bestowed his power upon them, half going to Adam and half to Aman. Shortly afterward, Adam killed Aman, taking his half of the powers for himself, seeing his nephew as a potential obstacle in his violent revolution.

During Adam's search for one of the Four Horsemen for the Apocalypse, he ended up in the nation of Bialya. Frustrated with his lack of results, Black Adam unleashed his rage on the entire country, blaming them for his family's death. In a quick, brutal attack, Black Adam killed hundreds of innocent civilians.

The attack on Bialya was wholly unprovoked and a result of Black Adam's frustrations and many readers consider this to be the worst thing Black Adam has done. Sadly, all of that went away immediately after Bialya.
