One of the most popular anime series from 2019 is That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, a creative isekai series starring the blue slime Rimuru Tempest. He was born an ordinary Japanese salaryman, and after a fatal stabbing, he ended up in a fantasy world populated with goblins, orcs, lizard people, talking wolves, and much more.
Rimuru is on a mission to unite the races in a new, benevolent kingdom in the Jura Forest, and all people are welcome. This series does a lot of worldbuilding (and city building), but there's plenty of action, too. Rimuru and his ever-growing roster of allies have many enemies to fight, and now, we've ranked all the series' best fighters, as of season 1's finale.
Updated on April 19th, 2021 by Louis Kemner: The first half of Season 2 has now aired, and those episodes were absolutely packed with exciting action scenes and a handful of wild new characters, such as the three Beastketeers, Myulan the wizard and even a new Demon Lord Seed. By now, this series has moved on from isekai Civilization to becoming an action/adventure series with some added worldbuilding, and it's time to reassess how the characters rank in terms of combat power in addition to adding a few more to the list.
15 Shion, Rimuru's Loyal Secretary & Swordswoman
Shion is one of the six surviving members of the ogre clan (the rest died at the hands of marauding orcs). She is also Rimiru's secretary, in a manner of speaking, and she just adores her new slime boss.
Although Shion likes to goof off, she can fight, too, wielding a huge sword in battle. She seems to rank lowest among the ogres, but still, her skills are not to be taken lightly! Especially if anyone directly threatens her beloved boss.
14 Suphia, The White Tigress Warrior
When Rimuru made contact with the Animal Kingdom, the three Beastketeers arrived, and that included the wild warrior known as Suphia. She is a reckless and aggressive melee fighter, with her true animal form being that of a white-furred tigress.
In the story, Suphia had the power to keep pace with Shion in an all-out duel, and that was without the use of her animal form. Suphia's aggression and instincts are sure to maintain her position as a powerhouse in this series.
13 Ranga, The Star Wolf
The wolf known as Ranga was one of the first warriors to ever join Rimuru Tempest's side. Early on, the wolves and goblins were bitter enemies, until Rimuru stepped in and ended a battle by slaying the wolf pack's brutal leader.
Rimuru granted Ranga his name, and so the wolf grew huge and powerful! He makes for decent backup in a fight, and he's also a fast runner. So, he often acts as Rimuru's personal transport, though the goblins sometimes ride him too.
12 Geld, The New Orc Leader
There are two orcs named Geld, and the second one is a loyal ally of Rimuru Tempest. When the original Geld, the Orc Disaster, was defeated, the surviving orcs prepared themselves to be wiped out to the last man. Instead, Rimuru spared them, and named a new Geld to lead the orcs.
The new Geld takes his duty seriously, and he is deeply grateful to Rimuru for sparing his people like that. Geld is just as tough and strong as one might expect, and he easily defeated Shogo the otherworlder in savage combat.
11 Souei, The Ogre Ninja
All of the ogres have a Japanese theme, as you can tell from their clothes and swords. Souei is the stock ninja character: serious, calm, observant, and ruthless. Once he obtained a name courtesy of Rimuru Tempest, his power was pushed to the next level.
By now, nothing short of a boss enemy can get in his way. At night, in forests, in the city, or anywhere that has cover, Souei can ambush Rimuru's enemies and knock them out or kill them before they even realize what's happening. Now that's slick.
10 Benimaru, The Ogre Tribe's Finest Warrior
Benimaru is a highly skilled swordsman of the ogre tribe, and he acts as the ogre tribe's leader (though he's not quite the tribe's strongest fighter). His little sister Shuna looks up to him for a good reason: Benimaru is tough, friendly, deadly and quite loyal.
Now, as a kijin with a name, Benimaru is able to slaughter whole squads of Rimuru's enemies with little trouble, and he can back this up with fire magic, too. One day, the ogre tribe shall be truly avenged.
9 Shizue Izawa, The Masked Hero
In some ways, Shizue is the precursor of Rimuru Tempest, since she arrived in this fantasy world from real-life Japan. In this case, she was brought from World War II Japan via a summoning spell, and she was bound to the Ifrit.
Shizue is a master of the sword, and her heroism and skills are the stuff of legend. She can wield flames, thanks to Ifrit, and nothing can get in her way. Ultimately, though, she passed away and bequeathed her trademark mask to Rimuru, who humbly accepted it.
8 Hakuro
Old man Hakuro may not be the leader of the ogre group, but he is the most experienced and skilled of them all. Even before receiving his name, he was a beast on the battlefield, and after getting a name, he became the ultimate swordsman.
He has taken up the post of head instructor at Rimuru's city, open to train anyone who wishes to learn the ways of the sword. And based on what we've seen of his combat prowess, no one is better qualified than him. He took on Kyoya Tachibana, an otherworlder fighting for Falmuth, and easily defeated him.
7 Hinata Sakaguchi, Shizue's Apprentice
Shizue once had a student named Hinata Sakaguchi, and Hinata clashed with Rimuru partway through Season 2. Hinata is furious, blaming Rimuru for Shizue's demise, and she used her incredible powers to challenge Rimuru in battle. And she nearly won.
Hinata wields a sword with incredible skill, and she can use the Dead End Rainbow technique to kill a target after striking it seven times, regardless of the target's health. she can also make holy barriers and think with rapid, mathematical precision. She can even take control of a target with her Userper technique.
6 Geld, the Orc Disaster
Rimuru sure knows how to find the biggest, baddest enemies the land can offer. In this case, the pig-like orcs are led by Geld, who became a demon lord and wields the power to devour just about anything. Ravenous hunger is what defines the orcs when we first see them.
Geld, the Orc Disaster, is a lumbering, brutish boss battle that only Rimuru himself can handle. And even then, Geld demonstrated remarkable power and resilience in the face of our incredibly mighty lead character. Few can trade more than a few blows with Rimuru and keep fighting, but Geld did just that.
5 Demon Lord Carrion, King Of The Animal People
The ruler of the Animal Kingdom of Eurazania is Demon Lord Carrion, and in a kingdom where strength and instinct mean everything, it takes a lot to become the top dog. Carrion has incredible strength, speed and instincts on his side, and there is little doubt that he has triumphed over many challengers.
Demon Lord Carrion went up against both Demon Lord Milim and the winged Demon Lord Frey, and although he didn't win that fight, Carrion did well to survive against two such powerhouse foes, especially how Milim could blast apart the terrain like that. Carrion promises to be a mighty ally for Rimuru one day.
4 Demon Lord Frey, Milim's Winged Ally
Not much has been seen of demon lord Frey so far, but based on her demon lord status alone, this winged warrior is incredibly powerful, and she is bound to dazzle viewers in future episodes with her combat prowess. At the very least, being able to fly gives her a huge advantage over many opponents.
So far in Season 2, Frey has served as Milim's ally in the fight against the Animal Kingdom, acting on behalf of Demon Lord Clayman. She kept up with the mighty Demon Lord Carrion, and it's not unthinkable that someday, she might become a True Demon Lord.
3 Veldora, The Imprisoned Dragon
He is one of only four true dragons in the entire world, and a few centuries ago, he was the bane of all civilization. Veldora could lay siege to any city with his talons and flames, and no one knew how to stop him.
That is, until a hero arrived and sealed him away, and now his vast power languishes in a cave. Until Rimuru comes along, that is, and absorbs him. Now his formidable power is that little slime's to wield, and halfway through Season 2, Rimuru granted Veldora a human body so he may live again, and the implications remain to be seen. Veldora owes Rimuru Tempest a lot by now.
2 Rimuru Tempest, The Isekai Star
The main character himself has proven the among the most powerful fighter of all in the first season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Rimuru is smart, creative, and resourceful, and has many allies on his side. Combine that with his varied powers (black fire, lightning, steel spider webs, etc), and the result is a hero who simply can't be stopped.
It's fortunate that Rimuru only wants to use his powers for good, to unite the races and forge a kingdom where everyone can live in peace. Now, in Season 2, he absorbed enough human souls from the Falmuth army to become a True Demon Lord, boosting his powers even further.
1 Milim Nava, The Mighty Demon Lord
Like Rimuru Tempest, Milim is much more powerful than one would think upon first meeting her. In fact, she is a demon lord, and thus one of the world's most powerful beings. Milim dueled Rimuru upon their first meeting, and pushed him to the limit with no apparent effort. She also destroyed Charybdis with ease.
Fortunately, Rimuru knew how to make Milim stand down in their duel, and recruited her as yet another ally (so long as he provides enough food). In return, Milim will fight any battle, no matter the odds, and win. Boss-level enemies are no match for her, and her true demon lord form was enough to obliterate half the Animal Kingdom with ease.
