Director Andy Muschietti has already lined up his next project following the completion of It: Chapter Two, and it's another classic literary adaptation.

The filmmaker has signed on to helm an adaptation of H.G. Wells' 1895 sci-fi novel The Time Machine. Muschietti and his sister Barbara Muschietti have already written a treatment for the film, with Barbara Muschietti also attached to produce with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson with Warner Bros. distributing the film.

The classic sci-fi tale follows an eccentric inventor in Victorian England who constructs a device that allows him to travel through time. Upon his arrival 800,000 years into the future, he discovers a humanity has diverged into two separate races and at conflict with one another.

This is the third cinematic adaptation of Wells' novel with the first film incarnation of the story, produced and directed by George Pal, being released in 1960 and starring Rod Taylor. A second cinematic adaptation was released in 2002 and directed by Wells' own great-grandson Simon Wells and starred Guy Pearce. The novel has additionally been adapted for television and radio.

The Muschiettis wrapped principal photography on It: Chapter Two today with the Stephen King adaptation now moving into post-production in time for its September release. There is currently no announced release date for The Time Machine.
