Filmmaker Tim Burton is making the leap to the small screen for a live-action television series adaptation of The Addams Family with the creators of Smallville.

According to Deadline, Burton will executive produce the project, along with the possibility of directing all of the episodes. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the creators behind the fan-favorite Smallville, will serve as executive producers and showrunners of The Addams Family.

There are many suitors for Burton's take on The Addams Family, including Netflix, who is reportedly the top contender to land the highly-coveted series that will be set in the present-day and feature Wednesday Addams.

Created by Charles Addams in 1938, The Addams Family franchise has been featured on the big and small screens, and in both live-action and as an animated project. The 1991 The Addams Family live-action movie starred Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd and Dan Hedaya, with the Addams Family live-action movie featuring the voice cast of Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moret, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Snoop Dogg and Bette Midler.

Tim Burton's credits include 1989's BatmanBeetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands.
