Welcome to Poohdickery! Writer Don Ferguson and artist Richard Moore did a syndicated Winnie the Pooh comic strip for ten years that was reprinted for decades after they stopped making new strips in the late 1980s. One of the notable aspects of the strip is how Winnie the Pooh and his friends often act a lot less nice than they do in their animated appearances. In this feature, I'll post one of these examples each installment. Click here for an archive of past installments!

The more I write about these Winnie the Pooh characters, the easier it is to see how Ferguson and Moore could get certain negative character traits out of these particular characters.

For instance, Tigger is beloved by everyone. He's possibly the most popular character in the entire Winnie the Pooh series and that's saying something since, well, you know, Winnie the Pooh is also extremely popular! And yet, the guy can really be quite the self-centered egotistical dude most of the time.

Perhaps the most popular song from the Winnie the Pooh series is Tigger's spotlight song, "The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers"...

And check out the lyrics!

The wonderful thing about Tiggers

Is Tiggers are wonderful things

Thier tops are made out of rubbers

Their bottoms are made out fo springs

They're bouncy, trouncy, founcy, pouncy

Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!

But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers

Is

I'm the only one

We all dig it because he's funny and his ego is not really played off as being rude, per se, it is more a case of him just not knowing how he comes off. He really is just THAT self-centered. Of course, you could argue that he is likely also pretty self-conscious, hence the need to constantly talk about how he is so great.

Anyhow, I thought it was worth mentioning how Tigger was responsible for such a notable song because today's comic strip involved singing and Tigger's reaction to Pooh's voice!

Dang!

Couldn't you just see Tigger laying into hopefuls on American Idol or something like that?
