While it had certainly cultivated a dedicated fanbase, Amazon decided to end its live-action television revival of The Tick after two seasons last year. Following its cancellation, creator Ben Edlund announced that no other platforms had picked up the series for a third season, marking its definitive conclusion.

While promoting his latest series Snowpiercer, star Steven Ogg, who portrayed the retired superhero Flexon on the series, reflected on the cancellation of the series while noting that the comedic superhero parody would've made it the perfect companion piece to fellow Amazon series The Boys' more subversive take on the genre.

I was wondering if you could speak to your experience working on The Tick?

Steven Ogg: I was so disappointed that that was cancelled, and they really pushed for it and we were so excited for it to come back. There’s nothing like it on TV or streaming or anywhere. It’s so unique, so well-written and so fucking funny. It’s great to be on a set and laugh at the lines! And especially with The Boys, I really enjoyed that and I was like “The Tick would’ve been a great companion piece to that!” To have a half-hour sitcom thing along with it.

[I'm] really disappointed that that didn’t get picked up anywhere because I thought that it was very, very well done, funny and very accessible. It didn’t offend, it didn’t stir the pot, it was just witty, fun and enjoyable. A nice, easy thing which is nice to have; it’s good to have a mix. I loved doing that and I loved that character and, again, the half-hour sitcom thing is fun. It’s a different muscle you get to flex. It’s a shame it didn’t find another home somewhere because I thought they did such a great job with that.
