Adam Wingard is slated to co-write and direct an adaptation of ThunderCats for Warner Bros. Picture. According to co-writer Simon Barrett, no one -- not even longtime fans -- is ready for what Wingard has in store.

Barrett briefly discussed ThunderCats with ComicBook.com while promoting his new film Seance. "I will say this, our ThunderCats adaptation is going to be really, really cool. I don't think people are at all prepared for how long Adam Wingard has spent thinking about ThunderCats," Barrett said. "They are not ready for Adam's ThunderCats movie. It is going to destroy." Barrett has collaborated with Wingard on multiple films, including You're Next and The Guest.

Wingard was announced to be directing ThunderCats in March, where revealed that he is a lifelong fan of the '80s cartoon. "ThunderCats is a dream project for me. When I was in high school, I was obsessed with it," he said. "I was writing my ThunderCats screenplay through my entire tenth grade year. And I was hand writing it. The screenplay itself ended up being 272 pages long. I still have it. It was one of those things where I would carry around my notebooks and talk about it." Wingard is also in talks with Legendary to develop a new MonsterVerse film after the success of Godzilla Vs. Kong, with Son of Kong being floated as a possible title.

ThunderCats debuted in 1985 and features Lion-O and his fellow ThunderCats battling Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living on Third Earth. Wingard's take on the franchise will blend CG animation and live-action and will tell an original tale that takes ThunderCats back to its roots.
