Marvel's upcoming Thunderbolts relaunch sees a new team called into action -- and the crew doesn't seem to be wasting any time messing around.

CBR has an exclusive preview of Thunderbolts #1, which comes from writer Jim Zub, artist Sean Izaakse and colorist Java Tartaglia. CBR can also exclusively reveal the Izaakse's cover art and Stefano Caselli's variant cover art for Thunderbolts #3, along with a synopsis for the issue. The synopsis reads, "Hawkeye and Spectrum square off, Persuasion has her own perfume and Super Apes conquer Central Park!"

The upcoming Thunderbolts relaunch features a roster including Hawkeye, America Chavez, Spectrum, Power Man, Persuasion and Gutsen Glory, a new character Zub previously described on Twitter as "a '90's-nod cyber-soldier with a mysterious past!" The synopsis for the first issue reads, "…LIKE LIGHTNING! Super-powered crooks have taken hostages in Staten Island? A dimensional rift tears open in Chinatown? Monsters running amok at the Met? Call in the THUNDER! New York City’s finest are here to save the day — Hawkeye, Spectrum, America Chavez, Power Man, Persuasion and Gutsen Glory! You know ’em, you love ’em...they’re the Thunderbolts! In the aftermath of Devil’s Reign, the Big Apple has big problems, and it’s up to a new group of Thunderbolts to turn things around. But when Clint Barton gets tasked with heading up this team and proving they can go toe-to-toe with anything the Marvel Universe can throw at them, the first opponent he’s going to have to face is himself."

The Thunderbolts first appeared in 1997's The Incredible Hulk #449 by Peter David, Mike Deodato Jr., Tom Wegrzyn, Glynis Oliver and Comicraft. Created by Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley, the team's original roster included Citizen V/Baron Helmut Zemo, Atlas/Goliath, Songbird/Screaming Mimi, Jolt, Hawkeye, Techno/Fixer and others. The team's roster has changed significantly over the years, as characters like Green Goblin, Jack O'Lantern, Ant-Man, Black Widow, Luke Cage, Winter Soldier and many more have all joined Thunderbolts at one point.

The Super Apes first appeared in 1963's Fantastic Four #13 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Stan Goldberg and Artie Simek. The villainous group of primates was created by Ivan Kragoff/Red Ghost after he injected them with the same kind of comics rays that gave the Fantastic Four their powers.

Thunderbolts #3 comes from Zub and Izaakse, with a trading card variant cover by Caselli. The issue releases later this year from Marvel.
