"Thrilling Adventure Hour" Spawns Two New Image Comics Series

Ben Acker and Ben Blacker's popular podcast and live stage show "The Thrilling Adventure Hour" will return to comics in 2015, this time at Image Comics. The publisher has announced two new comic book series based on the show's most prominent segments, "Sparks Nevada: Marshal on Mars" and "Beyond Belief."

Acker & Blacker will write both series, which are scheduled for a February 2015 debut. The pair will be joined on "Sparks Nevada" by artists J. Bone and Jordie Bellaire; "Beyond Belief" will be illustrated by Phil Hester and John Rauch. Both books will be lettered by Marshall Dillon.

"We are tremendous fans of Image, both the caliber and quality of books they put out," Acker and Blacker said in a joint statement. "We couldn't be more (ahem) thrilled to be producing books with Image, the home of so many of our favorite comics and creators. We're excited for the 'Thrilling Adventure Hour' to be a part of the Image family, for that big 'I' is a seal of quality."

"Sparks Nevada" centers on the titular human lawman (played in the live show by Marc Evan Jackson) protecting Mars from various unique threats. "Beyond Believe" features Frank and Sadie Doyle (played in the live show by Paul F. Tompkins and Paget Brewster), married mediums and martini enthusiasts who frequently wind up solving supernaturals mysteries.

The "Thrilling Adventure Hour" stage show debuted in Los Angeles in 2005 as a comedic take on old-time radio dramas, and continues to be performed monthly at Largo at the Coronet, with the show also released as a podcast through Nerdist. In 2013, Archaia released a well-received "Thrilling Adventure Hour" anthology graphic novel.

Beyond "Thrilling Adventure Hour"-related releases, Acker and Blacker have also co-written multiple comic books for Marvel, including last year's "Deadpool Annual," the "Wolverine: Season One" original graphic novel and the current run of "Thunderbolts," to wrap later this month. The pair are slated to appear this coming weekend at New York Comic Con, with a signing set for 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Image Comics booth (#1544).
