A decade separates the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the upcoming sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. As you might expect, a  lot went on in those 10 years, most of which won't make it into the film. However, Fox teamed up with VICE's Motherboard to get into some of those tales.

Motherboard has released three different short films featuring the humans dealing with the end of their world and the beginning of the apes'. The first, "Quarantine," takes place in the first year after the Simian Flu outbreak as a father and daughter struggle to survive while also visiting the girl's infected mother.

"All Fall Down" is set five years after the outbreak, and focuses on a girl who steals things from abandoned houses and sells them to get by.

Finally, "Story of the Gun" follows a firearm as it makes its way from one owner to another in the 10 years since the Simian Flu hit.

Directed by Matt Reeves, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes stars Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo, Karin Konoval and Judy Greer. It opens July 11.
