Hardcore Gantz fans are already ridiculously excited for the forthcoming live-action adaptation of Hiroya Oku's manga and anime series. People who aren't Gantz fans probably have no idea what we're talking about, so here's a quick primer: the story centers on Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato, two high school students who are killed in a subway accident. Following their deaths, they're transported to a mysterious Tokyo apartment alongside other equally mysterious men and women. There, they learn that they're part of a posthumous game where they must track down and kill aliens at the behest of a bald man who emerges from a curious black sphere. One part sci-fi, one part action, one part horror, all parts awesome.
A pair of live-action Gantz movies are on their way courtesy of Japanese filmmaker Shinsuke Sato. The first movie arrives on January 20, 2011, and Dark Horse Comics (the manga's English-language publisher) has informed Spinoff Online about a new contest where fans can win the chance to attend the Gantz world premiere in either Los Angeles or New York City. Head on over to Dark Horse's blog to find out more about the contest, but first, check out three new images from the Gantz adaptation!
