WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Thor #6 by Donny Cates, Nic Klein, Matt Wilson and VC's Joe Sabino, on sale now.

In the pages of Donny Cates and Nic Klein's Thor series, the God of Thunder has gone up against the most destructive force in the Marvel Multiverse: the Black Winter, a cosmic entity that annihilates entire universes. Before the Black Winter fell upon the Marvel Universe, Galactus warned this Star Plague was coming to destroy the Marvel Universe, and he joined forces with Thor to become more powerful than ever before. Only when powered up would the Devourer of Worlds and his Herald of Thunder have the chance to defeat this cosmic destroyer.

However, in Thor #5, the Black Winter revealed it had no interest in the Marvel Universe -- all it cared about was Galactus himself. Now, in Thor #6, the God of Thunder takes on the Star Plague by himself. Although he wins that battle, the Black Winter gives him a glimpse at the future, a future dominated by the Mad Titan, Thanos, who is destined to become more dangerous than ever before.

Thor 6 Thanos Gauntlets

In Thor #6, the God of Thunder pushes his abilities to the limit. By defeating Galactus, he triggers a cosmic bomb which, combined with his own powers, is massive and devastating enough to destroy the Black Winter for good. When the dust settles, all that's left of the Star Plague is a black snowflake that Thor catches in his hand. Before crumbling away into nothing, the Black Winter offers Thor one last glimpse of the future -- his very own death.

The vision the Black Winter shows Thor is an imposing shot of the Mad Titan, with Thanos looking more menacing than ever. Here, the Marvel villain can be seen wielding all six Infinity Stones -- without an Infinity Gauntlet -- and affixed to Mjolnir, Thor's mighty hammer. Somehow, Thanos is now worthy of wielding Mjolnir, which itself is infinitely more powerful now that it is combined with all six Infinity Stones.

On his left arm, Thanos can also be seen wearing a new dark gauntlet. The powers of this black glove remain a mystery, but its dark shadow suggests that it's either connected to Knull, the god of the symbiotes or perhaps even the Black Winter. Whatever it is, it's sure to be wielded by Thanos to cause destruction on a catastrophic scale. And if all that wasn't bad enough, we can also see that Thanos is now leading an army of Marvel Zombies, which gives him a veritable army of undead heroes at his beck and call

This is undoubtedly a terrible vision of the future, and it's one that's made worse with the knowledge that will be the cause of Thor's death.

As ominous as this is, it's important to note that Thanos is not currently alive. Thanos was killed by his daughter Gamora at the start of the 2018 series, Infinity Wars. After the conclusion of the event , his followers in the Black Order and Hela, the Asgardian Goddess of Death, attempted to bring Thanos back to life through his brother Eros in the pages of the Guardians of the Galaxy series by Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw. However, the villains were unsuccessful in bringing the Mad Titan back.

Still, death has never stopped Thanos before, and this vision at the end of Thor #6 promises that the villain will indeed come back again somehow. For the time being, we don't yet know how the villain will return, or why. And he may very well return more frightening and powerful than ever before, armed with the Infinity Stones,  Mjolnir. a new dark gauntlet and an army of heroes turned zombies. In his past life, Thanos was one of the worst villains in the Marvel Universe. And his next life may very well transform him into the greatest threat the Marvel Universe has ever known.
