'Thor: The Dark World's' Alan Taylor in Talks For 'Terminator' Reboot

Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor is in negotiations to helm the long-discussed Terminator reboot, Variety reports.

Although Hollywood chilled on the franchise following the release of 2009's Terminator Salvation, the push for a new film began in earnest in 2011 with a pitch from Fast Five director Justin Lin that caught the attention of original star Arnold Schwarzenegger. Although that plan didn't work out -- Lin quickly bailed on the project to helm Fast & Furious 6 -- Paramount Pictures, Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures announced in June that they're partnering on a rebooted trilogy, set to debut in June 2015.

No further details have been revealed about the reboot, including in what capacity Schwarzenegger will appear.

According to Variety, Paramount had earlier sought such directors as Ang Lee, Rian Johnson and Denis Villeneuve, but Taylor was the last man standing.

Taylor, whose previous film credits include Palookaville, is better known for his television work on such series as Homicide: Life on the Street, The Sopranos and, most recently, Game of Thrones.
