Marvel's 2013 sequel Thor: The Dark World isn't as celebrated in the canon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as some of its siblings, but it accomplished a lot in moving the epic story forward. One of the most interesting sequences in the film is the opener, as Thor and his mighty companions vanquish marauders on Vanaheim in the final push to pacify the Nine Realms. Now one of the film's primary artists and an insightful, phantasmagorical creator in his own right is sharing a beta version of the marauders that might keep viewers up at night.

Shared by concept artist Jerad S. Marantz, the potential villains include one big bruiser who's built like a tank, a ninja-like waif wielding a pair of truly scary blades, a cloven-toed demon with a head-lopping battle-ax and a masked cipher who looks like he's a weapon to fear himself.

"I was brought on to do a bunch of fast concepts for these guys in the beginning of the film," Marantz posted. "I did a lot ranging from sci-fi to fantasy. It was a lot of fun."

Marantz has been designing in the film, television and game space for over 15 years. In addition to his contributions to many of the films in the MCU franchise, the creator has dreamt up nightmares for brands like Clash of the Titans, American Horror Story and Avatar, among many others.
