Director Alan Taylor may be returning to familiar, and frigid, territory for parts of Thor: The Dark Word.
According to the Icelandic website Svarthofdi (via Comic Book Movie), the island country may serve as a filming location for the Marvel sequel, perhaps suggesting the inclusion of Jotunheim, home of the Frost Giants. Taylor is no stranger to Iceland, as it serves as a stand-in for the the lands Beyond the Wall in HBO’s hit fantasy epic Game of Thrones.
Most of the filming of The Dark World is expected to take place in England, where Bourne Wood in Linconshire will be used for a sequence involving ” a battle between two kingdoms.” Which two kingdoms isn’t specified, but it’s a safe bet Svartalfheim is one of them.
Thor: The Dark World, which opens Nov. 15, 2013, stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Zachary Levi. Christopher Eccleston reportedly is in talks to play Malekith, ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim.
