After bringing some much needed fun to the Thor franchise with Thor: Ragnarok, it appears director Taika Waititi may be set to return for another Marvel film.

The news hails from The Hollywood Reporter, with the trade confirming that Waititi had met with the studio for an unspecified film. It remains to be seen if anything will become of those talks or exactly which project the two met about, however, for Guardians of the Galaxy fans, the news is especially hopeful. After all, following the news that Disney had fired James Gunn, fans immediately began to suggest the mouse house bring in Waititi to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But is it possible that the director actually had a meeting regarding The Eternals?

Following the success of Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige felt confident that the studio would work with Waititi again. "I would love, love, love to work with Taika again and I have every confidence that we will," Feige stated during the press junket for Ragnarok. "What we’re working on right now is the next six movies. The next six movies that will bring us to Untitled Avengers in May 2019, which carries off a lot of what you see in this movie. In some cases very directly, and continues to build and grow. The notion of the Jack Kirby elements. Walt Simonson has always been an influence on the Thor series for us, obviously, he’s done such amazing work in Thor."

And while it remains to be seen what the God of Thunder's fate following the events of Avengers 4, Waititi and Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, seemed to suggest they were very interested in re-teaming for a fourth Thor film -- which would be a first for Marvel Studios, as it tends to tell trilogies, rather than sagas in regards to solo films. And as exciting as that would surely be, it seems all the more likely that, if Waititi should return for another Marvel film, it'd (probably) either be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or The Eternals.

As it stands, Marvel Studios' Phase Four line-up is still a huge mystery, but we know that Black Widow, The Eternals, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 are definitely in the works -- along with Doctor Strange 2 and Black Panther 2. Most of those projects have a director attached. The two that don't? Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Eternals, which both have scripts and are in varying stages of development at the moment -- both projects that would be a perfect fit for Waititi, who proved he can deliver a spectacular studio film with Ragnarok.

Of course, just because Waititi and Marvel met for a project, it doesn't necessarily mean anything will become of it. For now, we'll just have to wait and see whether or not Waititi opts to helm another Marvel Studios film.
