A scene from Thor: Ragnarok depicts Karl Urban's Skurge in possession of various items -- his twin rifles, for example -- obtained during a visit to Earth. However, his mementos aren't all lethal, as his collection also mysteriously includes a Shake Weight.

According to director Taika Waititi, that's his own subtle nod to another superhero film, 2011's Green Lantern.

“Oh, that’s my Shake Weight,” he explained to Fandango. “That’s mine, and that was something I bought while I was in Green Lantern.” The director played Tom Kalmaku in the disappointing Warner Bros. film, which starred Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan.

“So I was in New Orleans and I was in Green Lantern, but I was barely doing anything,” Waititi continued. “I’d be in my hotel room and it’d be like 1 a.m., and the infomercial for the Shake Weight came on. I was like, “Screw it! I guess I’m buying everything I see on TV tonight – I’m gonna buy knives and some sewing thing. I bought exercise DVDs, too, but the one thing I bought that I kept was that Shake Weight … and then I had it shipped to Australia and I put it in the movie!”

In theaters nationwide, director Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, and Karl Urban as Skurge.
