Thor: Ragnarok Synopsis Clarifies Film’s Asgard/Planet Hulk Balance

by  in Movie News Comment

There are still two Marvel movies (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming”) in between audiences and this November’s “Thor: Ragnarok,” meaning there’s still plenty more to be seen from the upcoming Thor solo film. Before we get a full trailer or even a teaser, Disney has released a new synopsis and behind-the-scenes photo from the film via the Walt Disney image site.

The photo shows director Taika Waititi (“Hunt for the Wilderpeople”) working with returning Avenger Chris Hemsworth on the “Thor” film’s set.

More intriguingly, a new official synopsis clarifies the role that the fan favorite “Planet Hulk” storyline will play in the upcoming Thor film. We’ve known that elements of the cosmic gladiator storyline would play into the movie and that Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner would appear in the film, but this synopsis also indicates how that Hulk storyline will interact with the Asgardian one teased in the film’s title.

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!

Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi and returns Chris Hemsworth starring as Thor and Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki. They are joined by Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban, with Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.

We recently learned that Thor and Hulk won’t be the only two superheroes in the upcoming film, either. Following Thor’s appearance in the mid-credits scene of “Doctor Strange,” it looks like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme will return the favor in “Thor: Ragnarok.” It remains to be seen how large of a role Strange will play in the film, though.

Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban and Mark Ruffalo, “Thor: Ragnarok” is set to be released on November 3, 2017.
