It may not have set any new records, but the opening day box office haul for Thor: Ragnarok was definitely worthy of a god.

Ragnarok's $14.5 million Thursday makes it Marvel Studios' seventh-best opening night ever, coming in just shy of Spider-Man: Homecoming's $15.4 million Thursday last summer. Homecoming went on to bring in $117 million over its first weekend in theaters, so if Thor: Ragnarok ends up performing similarly, Marvel should expect the sequel to finish in the $110-114 million range.

According to Box Office Mojo, Ragnarok's overseas numbers are equally impressive. The film opened in Germany on Tuesday, where it has already earned $4.4 million. China and Japan will also welcome the Avenger's sequel in theaters this weekend, which will help boost the movie's international box office haul even more; it's already earned in excess of 164.5 million internationally.
