A familiar face in the Thor franchise, Odin, returns in a new teaser for Marvel Studios' upcoming film, Thor: Ragnarok.
Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins, makes a brief appearance in the most recent TV spot for the movie, which sees him deliver the line: "Asgard is not a place." Thor reaffirms his father's claim with the line: "It's a people." This dialogue is poignant considering the movie's antagonist, Hela, is hell-bent on destroying Asgard in its entirety. So, regardless of whether her dastardly plan comes into fruition, it seems Asgard can survive if some of its inhabitants do.
Audiences last saw Odin in Thor: The Dark World, in which he was seated at the throne of Asgard. Well, it appears to be Odin, at least. In fact, it's Loki performing some of his devilish magic to appear as his adoptive father. This scene acts as an intriguing plot twist for Loki, since he's seen dead earlier in the movie. The natural question then becomes: If Loki is Odin, then where is the real Odin? Thor: Ragnarok is set to explain all in November.
Debuting in theaters on Nov. 3, Thor: Ragnarok is a production of Marvel Studios directed by Taika Waititi starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.
