Thor: Ragnarok Rockets Past $300 Million At US Box Office

In its sixth week at the box office, Thor: Ragnarok has done something no other Thor film has managed to do: surpass $300 million domestically.

Over the weekend, Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok became the sixth film of the year to pass $300 million at the domestic box office, joining the likes of Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming.RELATED: Star Wars: Kennedy Wants to Enlist Thor: Ragnarokâ€™s Taika WaititiWith the addition of $6.3 million in its sixth weekend, Ragnarok is the first Thor film to reach $300 million at the North American box office. The 2011 original earned just $181 million domestically, and its 2013 sequel Thor: The Dark World finished with $206 million.Of course, unlike its predecessors, Thor: Ragnarok had word of mouth working in its favor. Not only did the film achieve an impressive 92 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but it also successfully reinvented the franchise, earning praises from critics and fans alike. It's the fourth superhero film in 2017 to reach the $300 million milestone.

Although updated foreign numbers are not yet available, the film appears as if it will finis its worldwide theatrical run with somewhere between $860 million and $880 million, as Star Wars: The Last Jedi is sure to overtake the box office this week. Still, that's nothing to scoff at: For comparisons sake, Thor finished its global box office run with $449 million, while The Dark World retired with $644 million.

In theaters now, Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.
