According to Marvel Studios concept artist Jackson Sze, Thor almost looked completely different in Thor: Ragnarok.

Sze took to Instagram to share some old concept art for Thor's original look in the gladiator pits on Sakaar, and the character is almost unrecognizable. Marvel Studios' senior illustrator considered the planet's status as a junk world playing a part in the design of the costume. The Odinson would have pieced this suit together just before entering into battle.

The design retains some of the Jack Kirby elements present in the final version of the film, but it looks far more Star Wars than what director Taika Waititi ended up going with. A costume like this seems to belong in Guardians of the Galaxy more than what Ragnarok ended up being. In the end, Thor was given a new color scheme, a different helmet without a face mask and all the Star Wars-like elements were removed.
